New top link

I just had to buy a new top link for my 47 2N. The old one was in real bad shape so I decided to replace it. I went to my local TSC and bought one that fits perfectly. The only question I have is the handle that is supposed to go in the holes half way down the shaft, how do you get it in there? There seem to be some raised places near each end of the handle that will not allow the handle to go in the hole. My guess is to whack it with a hammer to get it in there. Then the question would be if by forcing the handle in the hole it wallows it out enough to fit, what keeps it from falling out the same hole you forced it into?

That's exactly what you do...drive it thru. The designers apparently expect it to stay there indefinitely...and it does stay there for awhile, ...although about two years later I found that vibration had diminished the "upsets" sufficiently to allow the handle to fall out.
I temporarily "fixed" it by forcing a couple of short (1") pieces of hose onto each end..but that also was unsatisfactory after awhile.
Ultimately I welded a couple of nuts onto each end.

I took a hammer and knocked mine in, matter of fact have bought 4 of them in last few months, whacked em all in and have all worked fine.

Whack it in and center handle and I use a center puch to lock it in place or spot weld it.

Kinda like a cat, huh?

Ohhh Dunk - must be a dog man eh? 8)

TOH

Just a joke....

I am a soft hearted, and love most all animals.

I run a die on the shaft to cut threads and loctite a nut on each end. That will retain the shaft forever and if need B can B removed.

For those that have lost theirs i believe its just a 1/2" round rod,,, add'n the nuts also gives ya something to grab ahold of

If you have a 3 hole rocker then you need a HO-MADE link trap

I now use a 3/8" S hook

I keep that part of mine in the tractor tool box.

I have hardly [b:4664801c20]ever[/b:4664801c20] needed it.

I just pick the lift up or down, or pull forward, or backward, make it not be in a bind, and turn it with my fingers.

There have been a few times that I got the bush hog in a bind, and the tractor stalled, and had to get out the bar, and let the pressure off of it.
