No jokes or teasing needed. Im having a hard time with dry hands. So bad that when I fed hay yesterday I pulled my gloves off and they cracked enough to bleed a little. So went to walmart and was getting strange looks when I was looking at lotions while the wife was shopping. There was nothing there that looked or smelled like it was made for men or didnt have herbal this and scubbing beeds that. So I still have cracked dry hands and the wife is chasing me around the house with her lotion saying nobody will know. I bet the guys at the feed store could smell it two days later. Needless to say what do you guys use. Somebody told me to try this stuff from tsc but cant remember what it was.
 
I use whatever my mom has around. Whenever i go out i usually smell like any number of things, usually WD40, diesal, gas, sheep crap, paint thinner. Dont worry about what your hands smell like.
 
So you call it being a real man or a real dummy? Put some darn lotion on your hands and quit being a baby about it. What do you think the GUYS at the feed store are laughing at when you leave now?
 
My grandaughter has really dry skin and the hospital reccomended "Aquaphor". It is the only thing I have seen cure her quickly. All the lotions including the udder creams had no effect. We get it at walmart - might have to ask in pharmacy.
 
I have it so bad my hands bleed too! Udder cream does me ZERO good. Found a 3M product called Nexcare-not instant, but it works as long as you keep applying it. Greg
 
geez Jim I just asked what you used not for a bunch of name calling. o you must be 10 and use horse s;;t for lotion.
 
Pure lard works well, but smells bad. The rubber glove to bed idea is also good. May have the wife running and screaming unless you tell her in advance however. It's a good idea to keep the hands dry as much as possible, the dairymen years ago had lots of problems. Bag Balm is a sure bet as others have said.

Big deal with the guys. What if the guys think it is not your wifes stuff your using? They might give ya a high five for being the man.
 
Try Eucerin. It is available in drug stores. I am a mechanic and I have had problems with cracking skin for years. My wife told me about it. She is a potter and it really helped her. No smell to it.

I do this. I use what ever is on hand if and I was to worry about the smell I would never use any thing. But there are things you can buy from auto parts stores that help of if you know an avon rep check with them. Aloe also works but it would take a big plant to keep your hands from getting sore

I use my wife's Jergens Ultra Healing dry skin lotion. Works significantly better than Bag Balm. I never paid any attention to whether there is any after aroma. If there is, who cares?
 
Although I wear perfume to the feed store I also sometimes use the "Manly ??" Bag Balm on my hands. Although not really trying to attract the fellows they do seem to notice.
 
there is a product called gloves in a bottle that I have seen search it on google and somewhere you will find a place that lets you search for stores in your area.If you find it let us know how it works I haven't found any locally yet they sell out before I get there was told it was great stuff
 
Mine have always been bad for cracking. The only thing that has worked for me is "Burt's Bees Hand Salve". Wife got me a tin of it from our natural foods store and I use it in the morning before work. My hands have never been happier!
 
I've tried them all. Nothing works as good as Ahava dead sea mineral hand cream. This stuff is expensive if you buy it in a store, anywhere from $20-25 per tube. But you can get it on Ebay, 6 tubes for $20.00. It comes from Isreal.
 
I have had the dry hand problem for ever. The best thing I have found is "O"Keeffe"s Working Hands Cream"

If you want to fix up those cracks in a hurry buy some loctite super adhesive and glue them shut. Sure helps with the discomfort and speeds up the healing. Then make sure you use some of the suggestions for hand cream etc mentioned below.
 
Common problem in January. The absolute best is Neo-Sporin +. If they"re already cracked enough to bleed, they hurt, the NS Plus has a topical anesthetic to help relieve the annoying pain. You have to get the "ointment" style rather than the "cream". It is in a base very similar to vaseline. Rub it into the hands for about 15 min or so while you watch TV, then rinse very briefly in quite hot water and dry slightly before you retire. My prescription....
 
I've used corn huskers oil and it works pretty darn good. It doesn't work quite as well once they are cracked, but it will keep them a lot better after the cracks heal.
 
While you were in Wally mart you should have got some "Udderly Smooth". It works. Also, the ole cow product called "Bag Balm" is wonderful for real protection. Bag balm has a smell to it but she will thank you for using it.
 
i use the crack cream works pretty good, thats just what my wife buys me, the first thing you have to do is seal the cracks up though, lock tight would work but i use plain old super glue. seals cracks stops hurting just about that fast. been doin it for years wife used thougth it was dumb till she started doin it to, now swears by it. even uses it some on her patients, she works hospis.

When my hands start to bleed, I don't care what the stuff smells like...
For what it's worth, one product I have used is ZEP 'Glove'. It intended more for a shop setting to help keep your hands clean, but I find it works well in solvents and such to prevent them from drying out. Might work for you too...

Somebody on this board got me using Amlactin 12 lotion 2 years ago. I had the same problems with my hands. This stuff isn't cheap $28.00 for a 400 ml bottle. Most pharmacys have it or can get it. But it's really worth it. I use it once a day just before bed, it's not greasy and no sissy smell. It stings like a b***h for a few seconds due to the lactic acid contents but in a few days the cracks and sores heal up and don't crack again with once a day use. I work all evening in a dogfood plant and have my hand in all sorts of things and during the day I fabricate steel and stainless steel so my hands see abuse that most don't. That stuff really works! And I'm not laughing or kidding.
 
I keep a pump bottle of Goldbond Ultimate Hand Care lotion in my toolbox at work. It's really heavy, 1 pump will do both hands no problem, even when super dry & cracked. Mine used to get worse but lately I haven't been spending as much time outside to dry them out so bad.

I've also got a bottle of Corn huskers and it's ok, but not like Goldbond.

Do they still make NuSkin? Smells like caulk or nail polish. Paint it over the crack and it stings like h*ll, when it dries it keeps out the air and dirt. Start using Bag Balm before your hands get that bad next time.
 
My wife washes dishes at a local eatery, her hands crack and bleed from the hot water, And she has tried about everything. O'Keeffe's Working Hands seems to be the best for her. Found it at a True Value hardware store, comes in a green tube, not overly pricey. Cheap tubes of super glue work well over cracks and cuts. Usually lasts about a day or so and then do it again. Cornhuskers lotion should be at Walmart, can't get it here in Germany so just ordered some on ebay. Nutragena hand cream is real good also, but leaves your hands feeling slippery (not greasy). Dad used to take vitamin E capsules daily and kept his hands in decent shape.
 
Get a large tin of Bag Balm.Lobstermen and fishermen use it.Salt water is hard on hands.No need for expensive creams.Works good on piles too.
 
Vaseline used religiously at bed time,,, If I let my hands go to far I have to ware socks over my hands at nite,,, the socks are saturated in Vaseline. 2 git the cracks to heal i shave off all the dead skin around the cracks with a new razor blade,,, sure nuff makes it fell better,,, heals faster. In the winter I ware latex or Nitrile gloves when work"n,,, hard to git use to but hard to live with out once you git use to"em,,, NAPA should carry good ones for werk"n in. Played mechanic all my life,,, suffered the same deal,,, tried it all,,, Vaseline is hard to beat,,, give it a try for a week,,, takes time,, any thang does,,, trim that dead skin even if you trim 2 far it will feel much better and heal faster,,, when you see a crack start form"n start trim"n,,, it will go away,,, the crack is dead skin,,, will not heal till the good skin splits open,,, git the dead hard skin away from the crack.
 
Nitrile gloves. They keep the moisture in, keep your hands dry, and much warmer. Put them on under your regular gloves. When you need to do something with your gloves off, the nitrile gloves are thin enough that you can pick up a 1/4" washer. They also keep your hands from smelling like grease, WD40, used diesel engine oil, etc.

Had that problem every winter when I milked cows. Neutrogena,the stuff Paul Harvey used to advertise.
 
A nurse at the Veterans Hospital recommended
CRISCO to rub into cracked feet..says the base
is what all those fancy products use anyway.
This is the first winter in many years that I
havn't had cracked feet/hands
I rub it in good, wife put some large towels
UNDER the sheets, at the bottom of the bed, so
if any rubs on the sheets it won't stain the
mattress.
 
Go to a Farm supply store. Buy a tub of Udder Balm. Costs $5.49. Manufactured for Dionne Products, Des Moines Iowa. You will notice results overnite. For cracks in your fingertips, Put a small drop of superglue on the crack. They will stop hurting almost immediately and will be healed up when the glue wears off after a couple of days..
 
Emu oil for protection & prevention. As previously stated crazy glue applied after the split is pressed closed and held for a minute or two.
