NO OIL PRESSURE

I had oil pressure before I changed the oil and droping the oil pan to clean sludge out. But now i do not. Could the oil filter have something to do with oil pressure because i found out i was sold the wrong filter. The old filter had a smaller inside opening the new one is larger, same out side size.

On ocassions after a oil and filter change on my MF 150,diesel, my oil pressure gauge showed zero. I shut her down and backed off on the filter a bit to bleed out any air pockets. It solved the problem. I also always prefill the fliter with oil before installation.

Assuming your gauge is correct, if you cleaned out the sump, it maybe that you damaged the oil pick up tube or that tube has a leak in it and isn't allowing the pump to prime. Don't operate this engine until you have oil pressure!

I was carefull in puting the pan back up and you have to fit the pick up tube back in the screen wich was hard on the back. What i am thinking is on my Allis chalmers tractors if you do not get the filter on right and the center tube in the filter is not right you will not have any oil pressure to the gage. But looking a past posting some one said you could run the tractor with out a filter and still have oil pressure just no filtering of oil. MY gage is working i tested it. also the gage tube is clear plastic to see the oil in it. but there is none flowing to it. I took it off a second time and was able to blow air with no blockages. I do not have to right filter yet had to order it. 5 days to get it. Just hoping i dont have a bigger problem. thanks for any help because i am stuck!

The gauge is a deadheaded system that doesn't require oil to flow to it to read the pressure. The oil will compress any air in the line to the same pressure as the oil pressure. The pick up tube had to be air tight( no leaky seals or cracks), otherwise it will not prime. If it has a small leak, it may prime with cold oil but lose prime hot.Please keep us posted on what you find as this is an odd situation.

Not sure what motor you have there but I had a situation with my AD3-152 Perkins after losing all the oil from the sump when the sump plug fell out(still kicking myself). After filling with oil the pump would not pick up the oil until I removed the filter and filter housing from the side of the block and squirted oil into the oil gallery that was the delivery from the pump. This effectively put oil into the pump and after replacing the housing and filter the engine picked up the oil and attained normal oil pressure while cranking over. If this is relevant to your situation I hope it helps.

hi bill the oil pump releif valve may have stuck open with all that sludge just a thought hope it helps.tom
