No Start Update

Well we pull started the MF65 Diesel today, HOWEVER, it has a leak from the bottom of the case about midway on the tranny. Now the tractor has been sitting for 3 years and no leak under it- but once we got it running there's a very good leak that is coming from a hole on the very bottom side of the tranny. It feels perfectly round and I am guessing it to be the dia of a 1/4 drill bit. Is there a plug that should be in there and maybe fell out? Seems like an awful small hole for draining the fluid. Also, do you know what weight oil it should be?

I think the 'hole' should maybe have a cotter key in it like an 'N' tractor -to let leaking fluids out, rather than they get on the clutch. HTH

kornfused........there should be a dangling cotter key in yer tranny drain hole to let the OVERFILLED oil drain out without being clogged by oily mud. Oil source could be yer engine rear rope seal but they are generally pretty reliable once installed and worn in. Most likely yer tranny input shaft front bearing oil seal is leaking. Keep an eye on yer tranny oil level. Tranny cavity should be DRY. Many times tranny oil level is overfilled by (would you believe) rain-water leaking under yer seat bucket 3rd-point spring. ........Dell

Thanks for the input. I know he had manuals for it- just have to get his widow to find them, then I can give it a maintainence going over.

Cavity containing the clutch should be dry, the transmission gears should of course be lubricated. The section between the engine and the transmission is where the clutch is, and any leaks that find their way into that dry area leak out of that weep hole. If you have a steady stream, you have a seal issue like stated above.
