This just isn't gonna work.

Oh sure, it worked for temporary, but not a long term solution for sure.

Grabbed a bale to give me some rear end ballast. Great, good enough. However, can't see behind the bale. Darned calves wanna munch on the hay before I can get the tractor backed out of the corral.

'Fraid I'm gonna back over one of the little fellers. :>(

So, I dug around in the snow yesterday and found enough old iron that I can hang some "front end suitcase weights" on one of those straight bar drawbars that go between the 3-point arms. Just gotta go buy a couple of bolts to glue it all together.

Think I should be able to get 800 lbs on there anyway. 'Spose that will help?

Wow! I have renewed confidence in your sanity! Take the fixed drawbar and slide it in out of the way of 3 pt. Let the 3 pt down and put all the 100 lb weights you can get on there. Slide the other end thru the hole and put on the bolt and WALLAW . Problem solved. Migraine
P.S since I just talked to ya and my phone went dead I'll go get some pictures of that 3 pt gizmo and try to research that pump for the M. Later

Got to thinking, I've got three of those 10 place weight brackets and only ever use the weights either on the plow or cultivator. Most of the time, they are parked in the shed anyway.

Maybe I can Modify one to fit the 3-point? :>)

I've seen several variations of a 55 gallon drum cut in half and filled with concrete. Embed a couple of 3pt hitch posts to attach.

Hey Allan, back home I used one of those usless 3 point scoops that you are supposed to be able to haul dirt with. You know...you can hook to them front or backward for backing into a pile of dirt...or dragging it full going forward. Dad drug it in from somewhere.
Anyway, I helped him feed one winter and that darn 656 was all over the place. I went to the tobacco barn and found that scoop. I put it on and filled that thing up with old wheel weights, frame weights...what ever I could find.
From that time on...when I when to see him...it was either on the tractor or setting ready to be hooked up. It was small enough to get around safely, but heavy enough to keep the tractor from spinning.
My 2 cents...be warm.

Was told on the ford board that it was from an old WWII ford aircraft tug, used for ballast, one solid piece of cast iron. I remember it in the back at our ford dealership when I was a kid, it ended up at our farm, where it sat for 30 years or so, I had the same problem when I tried using the 850 in snow, so remembering where it was in the weeds, neighbors did not help themselves to it like they did everything else, probably too heavy to pick for scrap. Now it goes on in the fall and off in the spring, really makes a big difference on traction, I've not had to use chains, tires are loaded too. I honestly would sell the tractor first, this is one handy compact counterweight, not so cumbersome like a 55 gal drum of concrete, and I've often wonder what it weighed, 1000 lbs ???? Sure looks built for the purpose with that multi hole drawbar thru-bolted to it, often thought of having some cast, to sell, shipping costs would be interesting to say the least.

Allan, I realize you are trying to use what you have-makes the most sense. If you want another idea, we mounted an empty 55 gallon drum on the 3 point system, and filled it with wet concrete. Figured it weighed 2700 pounds, and was easy enough to remove. Greg

Allen, I built this setup using a weight bracket off our 706 and a section of old cultivator toolbar. It helps quite a bit and I even added a 2 5/16" ball to the top for moving gooseneck trailers with it.

I was also going to mention the 55 gallon drum full of concrete- I don't think it weighs 2,700 lbs- more like 1,000, I think- but comparable to a round bale. Lots of folks around here use them, for added traction for loader tractors. Easy to take off when you need the 3 point. If that's not enough weight, fairly easy to build a form for square concrete "lump" big enough to fill the bill.
