Got caught up on the snow removal yesterday so I took apart the Kohler engine in the Case 444. There were no balance gears in it so can't blame them. The rod was in several pieces, but the piston looks fine and the crankshaft journal will need a little cleanup, But no bad grooves in it. I'll take it all apart give it a good cleaning and find a new rod to replace the broken one. I'll have my son bring up a micrometer or something to measure the crankshaft journal to see what size it needs. Finding any numbers on the rod would be like finding a center piece in an all black crossword puzzle. I have one around here somewhere but unlikely it's the size I need. Grandson thinks the previous owner probably put the rod in with oil hole facing the wrong way. Maybe so, but it would be tough putting it back together so I could tell.
