not running

I have a 460 that will not start. It was running perfectly yesterday. I tried to start it today and it wouldn't hit a lick. After cranking a while I heard a bang and saw a giant fireball come out of the carb. What is wrong with it? I know it is in time correctly because I haven't touched anything. Could the coil be bad? Condensor? What is it?

also try checking all of the spark plug connections i had a crapy crimp on mine one day it ran the next it ran like crap then would not start at all turns out the hole brass piece burned at the end of the wires

Pull the coil wire from the cap and hold near a good ground while someone makes an attempt to start the tractor. It should have a good hot spark. Make sure the ignition switch is on.

If you have fire you need to pull No1 sparkplug near the radiator and bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Hold your thumb over the plug hole until you feel compression while someone slowly hand cranks the engine. You can drop a large handle screwdriver into the hole once you feel compression then watch the screwdriver rise. Quit cranking once it quits rising. Then take a look at the rotor to see where its pointing. Should be at the No1 plug tower. Check your valves on No1 cylinder too, to see if they're closed. I thought it may have jumped time. Hal

My 300u is converted to a 12v. The same thing happened to be, except the bang. The 12v to 6v resister quit working when it was turned off and cooled down. Just a thought.

Turn the gas on!!! I have found (serveral times) that none of my tractors will start without gas. LAMS
