Raining here this morning. It's enough that there will be no bean planting to day.

Got about half done with beans. 200 acres to go.

Morning Gary. Nice to see the rain here (Perry). We finished beans a week ago today, but they have been slow coming. I bet with the rain now they will be right up. We were getting pretty dry. Trying to get some corn hauled and rocks picked up now. Hope you can be back in the field soon!

The thunder and rain started about 5 this morning. I still got that 80 acres to do. Looked like rain all day yesterday and only sprinkled. No farming today.

All week they had been callin 4 clear days starting today , get up and it`s raining . Had plans to lay some hay on the ground . What days we`ve had that it did`nt rain it`s only in the 60`s and cant dry out , water is ozing up everywhere . Cinncincti says were 10 in. over and took till oct. to get this much rain last yr.

We still have 90 acres to plant. I was working at it last night but quit when I got to the freshly worked ground. Was worried that the rain would be heavy enough to make the already damp ground hard. I know its almost june but with this cool weather should we be planting beans? The seed man on monday was worried about the cool weather causing disease.

Corn done, beans about 1/3 planted. Sprinkles this morning, not sure if they will continue or not.... Happy to be where I'm at, some of my best beans got planted between June 5-9 over the years, happy to have some in to get going in fall.

We need some hot sunshine to pull some of this corn out of the ground.

Finished corn on monday and started beans tuesday morning. Started planting this a.m. around 6:30 as the weatherman thought the rains would dissipate before they got to Waterloo. Got rained out at around 7:30 and already show .3 inch in the rain guage. It has been a beautiful rain, though. We are 95% finished with the beans with 48 acres left to plant. 3 more hours and it's done.

Everythings planted but now we need rain to soften the crust on the corn so it can poke thru and the beans that were planted with tillage are sitting in dust. Getting very dry, starting to look like last year only earlier.

Finished corn in the rain yesterday morning, last field where the cows were before they went to grass so it had to be disced a lot. Some people are done with beans here. We took time to make an 8-38 planter into a 10-30 during one of the rainy spells, but it spilled over into dry weather, one of those one day projects that turns into 4 days. Lee

Do soys have a long growing season? We don't even think about planting drys until the 8th of June.

Three weeks ago drilled beans for the neighbor in some conventually tilled soil that drains well. They are up and looking good. Wish they were mine. Sprayed first pass RU on them yesterday. Started Monday on ours and finished yesterday. Monday it was a little wet and the notill drill was not closing very good. Might consider some type of closing wheel "spike" next year, but at $100-$160 each unit, will need to ponder the issue for than a couple of minutes. Yesterday with an additional 2-3 days drying, things went a lot better. It is raining and the radar claims 1/2 inch down with more coming. Perhaps this will "seal" the trench better in the earlier planted beans.

Not as long as corn.

If we get them in the ground before June 5 or so they will be ok after that yields will really suffer.

After June 20 an early frost is a big issue.

The corn around here is in and up but not doing a whole lot. On a more typical year its 8-12" by now.

Wheat is heading out and looking ok but the cool weather I am sure is hurting that too.

We have hay to cut too but rain and cool weather is putting the brakes on that.

Does anyone remember a summer like this in the early 90's. I remember wearing coveralls on the 4th of july that year but I was 16-17 yr old living back home in wisconsin then too. I don't think it was 93 cause that was the flood year and it was hot but a year before or after that.

Ordered our beans with CruiserMaxx @ $8/bu because the original intent was to plant in late April so we could follow with early October wheat. The wet weather made that a non-starter. The neighbors were not treated.

Soybean is becoming popular in some parts of Manitoba (South of Winnipeg and Portage). They seem to have a VERY narrow time window to seed into ( May 20 to May 25). Frost worries at both ens of the season. Not grown in my area yet. They use the same spot in a rotation as canola, don't gross as much per acre but often net more.
