'nother OT web browser question

First off thanks for all the advice on my previous post . I'm not to computer savvy so I have a couple more questions concerning this change-over . I think that since Firefox and Netscape are both Mozzilla products that all the bookmarks and settings will be moved from one to the other with little or no input from me during the install - is this correct ? I can't find any info or FAQ's to anwser this for me on the Firefox site . Second , the only reason I'm doing this change is because it seems more and more sites are causing a " illegal procedure " shutdown of the browser version I'm using now (Netscape 7.2 ) . Will updating to a newer version help this problem ? Version 9.xx just came out but my computer isn't new enough for that one . I'm afraid I only have the minimum system requirements for Firefox 2.0 also . Companies are giving up on being backwards compatible which I can understand . Win 98 is a dinosaur according to the geeks . Thanks for any answers to these final questions on this subject ( I hope ! ) ...Randy

Sorry Randy but I just checked and Safari needs XP or Vista so forget what I said below.

I installed Firefox browser on my iMac when I first got it and still use it for a lot of my bookmarked things. It also works better with some websites. But for general browsing and for YT mag I like Safari better.

Not sure if you can move your bookmarks or not as I have never used Netscape. I did download it once and as soon as I tried it I quit it and never went back to it again.

Firefox will import your settings from Internet Explorer, not sure if will from Netscape. Shouldn't hurt to try, at worst you'll have Firefox without the settings but it won't hurt your old browser.

There is a free service that can help you save all your bookmarks from your current browser and then transfer them to your new one or even another computer altogether.

This service is called "online bookmark manager".

Take your time at this site, but this is what I used when I upgraded computers and did not want to lose all my bookmarks. I had well over a hundred and this service handled them all easily. I now use FireFox and Safari and can easily update the bookmarks in both browsers.

There is a site called Foxmarks.com that you can upload your book marks to, then using your newer browser download them onto it. I use two computers and have the same bookmarks on each one using this service.

I use IE and Firefox on one of my computors at work. Some sites I go to will not open with Firefox. But that is some secure dealer sites that I am trying to use that do that, it might have something to do with security, do not know. But other than that, I like both, Firefox will load faster than IE on some sites, but if you do a right click, save, Firefox is kinda of a pain, it opens a window asking what you want to do with it, that is why I use both.

Firefox will import bookmarks from IE, Netscape 6.x, 7.x, and other mozillas. Here is a screenshot I took as I was completing an install.

With Firefox you can change your download options under Tools/Options/Main/ check the option to save to a file and browse to that file which you wish to use.
