Nuffield 4/65 pto

We just got a 4/65 diesel. We are having problems with the pto [2 stage] clutch. It won't dissengage
in either direction. Out of adjustment, and/or was it left in the incorrect position for longer than 10 minutes like the warning label states?
Thank you,
Jim Z .

That 10 minute warning is because the pto clutch
has a throwout bearing the same as the foot clutch.
There is another lever to take the pto out of gear
so you can let the pto clutch lever forward and the
pto will not turn even tho the lever is forward. It
should disengage when the lever is pulled back if
you have an implement attached to it. Is this a
working farm tractor or a show tractor? Nice thing
about this tractor, you don't have to split the
tractor as I recall, for clutch work.

This is a work tractor. I was glad to hear about not having to split it to get at clutch/bearing!
It has the "lever" to engage and lock the pto, but
when the clutch lever was moved to full forward or
back, the pto did not dissengage. We had a brush hog on as well.We thought it was worn, or linkage
out of adjustment.
Thank you,
Jim Z.

Its been almost 40 years since my FIL bought a new
Nuffield 465. I thought it was a pretty good tractor
except for that pto clutch, and the hand brake lever
that was always hanging up and not completely
releasing the brakes. Your tractor is probrobly
loose in the steering up front under the fuel tank
KEEP it greased good under there.

Dave,
Thanx for all the info! They are banging the door down here to get at me, so I'll absorb all this when I get a chance . I apprieciate all your
input.
Thank you very much!

I'm in MA and have a 4/65 and like you, the PTO lever doesn't do a thing. You can feel the clutch springs compress, but the disk doesn't disengage. I hooked it up to an MC Rotary Scythe which takes a LOT of power and ran it with the PTO clutch lever held back. It STILL wouldn't break loose. A local mechanic told me that the disk has probably glued itself to the clutch and I'll have to take it out. Haven't done it yet but I guess it's got to happen. If you have any luck with yours, please let me know. By the way, the clutch is a Borg & Beck so there should be no trouble getting parts(I've been told). Good luck.

Thanks for the info - I'll pass it on to my brother. We did get a chance to view through the inspection plate and could see the clutch plate
moving. He's building a garage, so "sometime" this will get looked at. I will try to pass on any information we can. He ordered a CD disc instruction manual and hopefully it will cover this. Have you ever had trouble starting this engine?
When he got it, it started and ran fine. Now she
won't fire, or she just huffs. We have fuel present all the way to the back injector, but it dosen't "spray" out. We aren't sure if it should have more pump pressure or not. Thought there might be an ol English trick?...
Thank you,
Jim Z .
