I have a 1988 Buick Skyhawk 2.0 4cylinder overhead cam motor when you start it you have to hold the excelarater down it is getting to much gas or flooding speed up to 2500 rpm it runs good but floods when you start to stop. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Fuel injected? If carburated...chances are real good that your needle and seat have trash in them...try tapping on the fuel inlet/bowl with the handle end of a screw driver...may unseat dirt particles holding the needle off the seat. Or..the carb has to come apart and cleaned.

When did fuel injection come in?..If it is fuel injected....beats me.

if it IS fuel injected, check the fuel rail pressure regulator. Some of them have a vacuum diaphram thing that can get punctured and leak down into the manifold

Take off air cleaner to get a good view of the throat of the throttle-body.Have someone turn key to the run pos. and see if you have fuel spraying or running down(you shouldn't see any).If you do,the injector sealing o-ring has ruptured.Pretty common on these.

Another possibility would be a bad TPS.This sensor(if back-probed) should read about .5 volt at idle or closed throttle. You can check this with a volt meter. With key on,one wire will have about 5 volts(reference),one wire will be a ground, and the other will read a varying voltage but at idle should be a half of a volt.

possible,,bad ecm , or take look at egr valve, or vac leak . Low vac will make MAP sensor think car is accelerating and enriches mixture . See this alot ,

Looking at the replies below, I think the short answer is, take it to a repair shop with the test equipment to figure it out.
