O/T- dual point dist

Hey guys, looking for some advice here. My neighbor has an old Ford Mustang that has a dual point distributor in it. He put new points in it and set both of them at .015". Some one told him that the points should dwell at 27. The most he can get is 15. What he doesn't know is if the dwell of 27, is for a set of single points. Hoping someone can shed some light on this. Thanks!

Adjust/measure 'em one set at a time by blocking one set of points open/off the rubbing block with an insulating material (folded paper or some such thing).

I think he's a little tight at .015". I'd go out to .019" on new points.

That way, the rubbing block(s) will wear "towards" the closed-side spec (32 degrees) and therefore will result in a longer period of time between adjustment.

How I do it anyway,

Allan

Thanks Allen. Hows the harvest season going out your way? Alot of guys here have most of the beans out and are switching to corn. Rumors are corn is coming out at 14-19 % moisture and anything from 185 to 220+ yield. I'm located about 70 miles east of Ia Gary.
