O/T Fires everywhere

There are at least seven large fires in my area of South Calif. 500 homes have already been burned, a real bad deal. The hole county is as dry as a pop corn fart. In my area one if the fires is about 2-3 mi away and closing. I plan to stay up all night to watch it. Have my pick-up pointed out. Wife and all the cats, and dogs have left. I moved daughters horses to a open field, along with neighbors horses. Watered a lot of my house area down. About all I can do now. Getting too old for this. Stan

My daughter lives in Escondido and evacuated this evening. Also have a couple of cousins in that area that have evacuated.

We had some bad wildfires with huge windstorms here in the Texas panhandle a year or so ago - that is sure a bad thing to go through!

Bad luck man, Half sister is out there somewhere. When we were speaking she would call on occasion primarily to rub my nose in some lousy rainy or snowy weather she saw we got. And exault in the beautiful weather she always has. I perfer my fire to remain in the stove. You folks can have your high cost of living, gridlock, beautiful weather and wildfires, I"ll stick with my lousy weather.

Our son is a Marine at Camp Pendleton, near Oceanside, he said the fire is now on the Marine Base, they are preparing to help others evacuate, they have people camping out in the shop at the base that were evacuated from other towns, ash and smoke are everywhere, I only wish I could be there to help out

Morning news stated 300,000 are homeless about 10 percent of the area people. Keep us posted.

30 mi North of San Diego. About 5 mi from the coast. It was a farminmg community until the developers moved in. My brother and I still have the home place. Stan

The town of Escondido is about 8 mi from us. This town is where dad would get his tractor's repaired, and buy farming supplies. Stan

I'm guessing you're in Vista? Have a cousin there that had to evacuate. I was hoping my daughter could just go to our vacation home south of Palm Desert, but I heard 15 north of Escondido is closed, 78 thru Temecula is closed and 371 at Aguanga is closed, so they don't have any way to get there.

I lived in Mira Mesa and Poway just south of Escondido for 20+ years prior 1998. My son still lives in Mira Mesa, on standbye to evacuate due westbound fire Scripps Ranch area.

How much of CA is on fire, I dont watch the news much--cant stand most of the commentators. Is it San Diego up to LA or just your area.

Congress passed the Healthy Forests Restoration Act in 2003 which would have allowed clearing of dead timber and debris on federal lands. I understand that environmental groups have it tied up in court. Not that this would prevent all fires out there but at least there wouldn't be so much fuel. The Santa Ana winds happen almost every year and once the fires start they are spread over wide areas by the high winds. Throw in a bunch of tinder in the fire's path and the fires are near impossible to stop.

It's all over news here too, though most media nowadays seem more intrested in celebrities than news. So we know all about the poor celebrities in Malibu and a few swedish wannabees. But what I can grasp from the more serious news it's a big tragedy for many people. i wish you luck.

can't understand why peaple there build mega bucks houses but won't buy a tractor & bushhog & clean up the area around their houses ???I saw on the news footage flames burning right up to this house...where's his lawn mower ??...Kent
