they tell us to eat fish twice a week, did you ever notice how much fish in the supermarket comes from China? I Really need to put my glasses on and read carefully to get fish that is not from China

strange as it may seem, mrs. paul and gordons frozen is wild caught alaskan haddock or pollock. miss. and al. pond raised catfish is best. foreign farmed fish/shrimp is basically tasteless.

Between what they feed them and medicate them with in China, you just as well eat carp caught downstream of any unregulated sewage plant and eat all the GMO crops that you can gather. They use medication that is not allowed in the civilized world. Do some research and find out for yourself

I wish I knew more about it, whats safe, what kinds you can only have 1 serving a month or something etc. Fish is a healthy food, problem is where they live, what contaminants are present, things like mercury like with the celebrity/actor Jeremy Piven, I remember a story about this guy having to take a brake from his career, he was enjoying a lot of Salmon and ended up with some serious problems over it. Like I said I wish I knew more about it, locally the Hudson, forget anything you catch there and would like to eat, PCB levels, who knows what else.

Years ago, sewer mains ran directly to the river, ok, so we developed treatment plants and the nasty turbid waters of biological hazards have been mostly eliminated, well unless systems are overwhelmed, organic waste, disease laden but that was relatively easy to solve, its all the industrial waste. Ive even heard of industry like leather manufacturing, putting their operations on ships to get into international waters so they don't have to abide by regulations, laws etc., worked with a guy that was from the leatherstocking region in ny, worked for one of these outfits, he said they did this to reduce costs, liability etc. We certainly have ruined a lot of bodies of water, with things that don't go away so easily and are not good for us.

Locally we have a beautiful 7 mile long reservoir, man made lake in a valley with beautiful fields that abound both sides, woods etc, no residences are allowed to be built on its shores, many old farms around it, no motor or even non motor boats, if you even get caught with your feet in the water its a violation, some incredible fish in there, I used to take a lot of bass, perch from there, though its a water supply for the nearby city, I am not sure what could be in the fish, it has to be clean, always fun to fish there, you have to get a special permit to do so, aside from the state fishing license.

Being from a state that has a lot at stake from import fish we hear a lot on the subject.
We even have a board to promote our wild caught and farm raised product.

While many places are exempt such as butcher shops; and many products are exempt such as processed food products (hotdogs) they do have standards in place to label Country of Origin. Its called the COOL law.
Here are the standards you can look for....

There are four country of origin labeling categories depending on where the animal was born, raised and slaughtered. They are:
1.Product of the U.S. - meat from animals born, raised, and slaughtered in the United States or from animals present in the United States on or prior to July 15, 2008.
2.Product of the U.S., Country X, Country Y, if applicable - meat from animals born in Country X or (as applicable) Country Y, raised and slaughtered in the United States and were not derived from animals imported for immediate slaughter.
3.Product of Country X, U.S. - meat from animals imported into the United States for immediate slaughter, and
4.Product of Country X - foreign meat imported into the United States.

Was at a Kroger store in NE Ms. a few days ago, they were filling a cooler with catfish that plainly said "A product of China" on the boxes, I wouldn't eat a bite of them if they give me a truck load of them. It's a shame as many cat fish farmers as we have right here in Ms. and Kroger is buying from China!!!

Most Talapia seems to be from China.

Also a high percentage of ingredients used in making our prescription medicines are from China.

The machines that most of us are typing these messages on are from China.

Red China? Ohh sorry that is not politically correct now per our corporate leaders.

shouldn't be a problem for those of us that grew up near Lake Ontario and all the chemical plants that used to dump everything into the Niagara river.
Eating Ontario fish and swimming in Ontario long ago
(if you could deal with the smell)
we probably glow in the dark a little and no bug would ever dare bite us........

Even though they say it's sorta safe to eat em nowadays,
for us that remember how it used to be.....I'll pass
And if China is now, like Ontario used to be.....I'll definitely pass

Not a lot different than here I guess. Every year we get warnings not to eat certain fish out of the Mississippi River.

That's why the dog food was killing the dogs, too. They add melamine because it tricks most protein tests into showing a false higher reading. Common practice in China. Why add protein when you can add melamine for 1/4-1/5 the cost and have the test show the same results.

Yes and unlike the in the USA where the exec of that company would get a bonus and no one would be guilty, the Chinese exec is now dead.

I do like a few things about the Chinese.
