O.T. hearing aids

For those who may be interested......I got hearing aids yesterday. WOW....I should have gotten them about 7-8 years ago! My 3 1/2 year old grand daughters (I have 2 of em about 2 months apart) no longer babble....they have words words I can undestand! And other sounds that I have forgotten were even there! I can also hear engine noises better so I can trouble shoot better!

The only down side is I can hear the wife nagging!

So if you thing you may need them get checked out.

Good point Rick. Take advantage of technology.
I have had tinnitus (ringing in the ears) for many years from concussive explosions. It is a real pain when trying to find a leaking joint in a LP line or things like that. Unfortunaley no cure for it.

I remember when I got mine 3 years ago, when someone ran water in the bathtub I thought I was standing at the bottom of Niagra Falls. Those everyday sounds sure sound strange for a while.

Clayton, I got them through VA as part of my service connected disabilities (played on tanks for 20 years).....the are ReSound brand name.

From one old tanker to another .Man I guess I better go back to va to .They been trying to get me to dayton va to get them . I keep telling them I'm alright but I know better and so do they .Ihear ok but don't understnd so good .tv really gives me trouble .Barely got through my last DOT physical but shoot I'm 68 to , that don't help LOL.

I got mine about three weeks ago. Still getting them tuned in right. Went fishing today without them because the weather report said is was to rain all day. They don't do real good if they get wet! Should have worn them. My Kaiser insurance pays $1000.00 so my cost was 3000.00. Could have got a real nice tractor for that!! Mine are PHONAK brand. there sure are lot of them on the market.

The $4000 for these was middle of the road. Not the cheap ones and not the "HIGH" price ones either.

Yea from what they told me at VA they are worth about 4-5K. If it wasn't for the service connected hearing loss I'd be paying for em out of pocket. But it sure makes a difference in what I hear.

Did you hear about the old guy that got hearing aids? Was at his doctors a few weeks later and the doc tells him "I bet your family loves that you can hear them now"......the old guys "they don't know, I just sit and listen and change my will".....

Ya a few years ago when I got my great big 10% for hearing loss they said when ever I wanted them I could get hearing aids. I have not done so yet but have been told they would help with the ringing I have most of the time. Maybe one of these days I'll get some but not sure I want them yet

Old I'm 55 and the wife has been after me for quite some time about my hearing. Didn't want them because it made me feel old. In just 24 hours I'm starting to understand just what I've missed because I was hard headed. The audiologist told me that the average person waits 7-8 years after they need them to get them. Looking back guess I was kinda dumb!

So then your saying your the same age or about the same age as I am then. The funny thing is I can still hear a lot of stuff but can not hear other stuff if that makes sense to you. It is just any more it takes a person 6 months to get an appointment and then you have to drive 100 miles one way and then go back 2 weeks later etc etc and I have come close to giving up on the V.A. for much other then my daily pills and the once if I'm lucky check up which the last time took me over a year to get

I went to the va. they said the hearing loss in the left was vietnam, hearing in the right was not vietnam. because I complained about the left ear over there but not the right. told them I thought both ears were with me at the time. LOL SAYWHHAT??

Hi guys, I fit right in the age bracket as some, ringing in the
ears.Wife found one of those ear lights on the net looked in
the ears and found wax growing, put ear drops in several
days. Wow now I can hear again. As for the ringing in the
ears my doc told me to lay off the salt It works no ringing
unless I eat something that has salt. Sometimes that is hard
as all processed food seems to be loaded with salt Not
having the ringing is nice

guys........I've had hearing aids since 1978 (40yr old) They think I lost most of my hi-freq hearing from MEASLES in 12th grade. I put them in and the 1st thing I heard what the tic-tick of the turn signals. Startled me.

I had been using "in the ear" aides but finally they could NOT supply enuff power ennymore so my last set (6-mos ago) were behind the ear. $2000 at Costco. ALL my dollar 'cuz I don't qualify for Vets med or Boeing med.

Since I live alone, I only wear them when around people ........Dell, the deef

LOL old about the same age. As far as hearing loss....the way it was explained to me it is common for the upper end to go first. That's why I could hear guys talking but not the grandkids or wife. My low Freq hearing is still slightly above normal. High end not so good.

Do not know all the ranges I have problem with. I know 400 cycle hum was bad and probably one of the ranges I have problem with because that was what you heard day in and day out on the Sub I was one for a couple years. Then I went to an aircraft carrier where the back door or as we called the hatch opened out to and to deck below the flight deck at the aft part of the ship where they landed so got a lot of jet noise problems also. Oh well one of those days I'll ask about them when I have to be up there for some other thing

In the course of nearly 70 years I have managed to outlast most of my parts. Nothing works the way it’s supposed to, including my hearing. My wife has complained for years about having to repeat her commands to me. Nearly every day I get an invite in the mail to enjoy a free steak dinner and sit through a pitch for hearing aids, but in addition to being broke I’m hard-headed. It’s nice to be able to legitimately tune people out.

Even so, I didn’t want my problem to get worse. It did, however, one afternoon last fall when I was getting close to finishing up the “restoration” of my ’52 8N. I had removed the rear wheels and took off the tires in order to wire wheel, prime and paint the metal. The center disk was rusted to the rim, so I stood it up and gave it a whack with a small sledge. Holy crap! It was as if someone had fired off a .44 magnum by (or into) my right ear. In that split second I lost about 25 percent of what hearing I still had in that ear, and it hasn’t come back. (Hey, I never claimed to be smart.)

So, if any of you need to pound out your wheel disks, I would recommend a 4X4 if you don’t have a big rubber maul.

As we get older - the high end does go first, a perfect ear can hear 20hz to 20,000....not sure that is true but, I know that my hearing is gone too on the top end, a squeeling motor or a computer fan buzzing, I cant hear it - my wife can! I think I blew my hearing listing to 70's rock and roll LOUD on the 8 tract and cassette!!!
I too hear what I want to hear! :-)
