O.T. Last Flag Raiser

Thanks for sharing that with us. All but one of my WWII veteran relatives are gone now, including my father, and I miss them.

Thanks for That Info. Phil Ward Who Was Also One Of The Original Flag Raisers Passed Away In Texas Last Year. I Was Prowd To Be A Friend Of His. He Retired From The Army To His Home Here In Crawfordsville In. After A Hitch In the Marines When 19 When They Raised The Flag, then The Army During Korea & Then In Vietnam. He Spent his Winters In Texas Where He Passed Away. He Was Interviewed Many Times, But Never Recieved The Recognition He Deserved. He Was Interviewed About The Book & Movie Flags Of Our Fathers, & Was Mentioned Several Times In The Book, But I Have Not Seen The Movie & Dont Know If someone played His Part In There. He Was The One Waving The Soft Cover (Hat) In Some of The Photos. He Always Said He Hated Helmets. He Was One Of The Original Members Of Our Local Tractor Club & Was A John Deere Collector. He Is One Of My Main Heros In My Life.

My original post said we were members of the same VFW, wrong, we were members of the same A.L. Post,(550). Have not seen the movie "Flags of Our Fathers" but did read the book. The author (Bradley) has written other military history books and is the son of one of the flag raisers in the famous picture. Bradley Sr. was a Navy Medic wearing the Marine uniform and serving them. The book was well researched, written and whether or not you have or will see the movie, if you like combat history you will like it.
