does anyone have a cure for moles. from the damage i have a whole herd must have moved in. i have a couple traps but have yet to skewer one

Smoke bombs such as Giant Destroyer or Revenge, available at your local hardware store work quite well.

To use a mole trap effectively you have to place in an active run. Flatten the most likely run with your shoe and see if they raise it back up. then center trap over run and set the trap so the pan is set deep. I usually push the pan down into raised soil while the trap is set. I did'nt have any luck with traps until I set pan in deeper. Also dry fire it several times so prongs will move easily into soil to skewer critter. One mole can do a lot of damage to turf and the best way to stop damage is just to eliminate them through attrition. You just have to kill them before they do much damage.

I have had good results with the smoke bombs too. Also the poison peanuts work but squirrels like them too. Years ago we had a flex exhaust pipe attached to our 8N and put it in the tunnel for a few minutes, it worked.

A papa mole, a mama mole, and a baby mole all live together in a little mole hole.

One day, papa mole sticks
His head
Out of the hole, sniffs the air
And said,
'Yum! I smell maple syrup!'

The mama mole sticks her head
Out of the hole,
Sniffs the air and said,
'Oh, Yum! I smell honey!'

Now baby mole is trying
To stick his head
Out of the hole to sniff the air,
But can't
Because the bigger moles
Are in the way.
This makes him whine,

'Geez, all I can smell is....

MOLASSES!

i'll try setting the traps a tad deeper. my daughter has a cat that is a mole catchin' fool. i thought about borrowing it but i'm having problems with a neighbor's great danes. one of them recently killed my wife's cat. too bad you can't buy mini land-mines.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife's cat. have you talked to your neighbor? Pet killing dogs need to be chained up or risk becoming acquainted with lead.

I agree 100%..I have a trashy neighbor whose dog barks non stop at times. Other times it might go for days and it acts like it has good sense and does not bark. When it does bark it will bark for hours non-stop. Usually this is at night during normal sleeping hours. It has also run across the road into my yard and snap at me when I go to my mailbox. As far as the barking, I sincerely wish these folks had this dog in bed with them and it would bark non-stop for 90 days...Then if they were still ignorant and trashy enough folks to still allow this little varmint to act like he does...Yes I'd kill him in a flat split second if I could..And if he ever bites me, he WILL come up missing.

It won't work immediately but you can plant castor bean plants in your yard and they will leave. Only problem is the castor beans are said to be poision. Not good with kids around. Once I saw a mole making a new tunnel in my yard, took the 22 and fixed his clock.

these folks have no clue. another neighbor has had them in court over these dogs. i"m keeping a low profile as i have plans of my own. but if the dogs ever come around when my grandkids are in the yard there will be some gunfire. a loooong time ago i was charged with malicious killing of a dumb animal for shooting a dog that had killed over 60 of my chickens, turkey, & geese, including some black coachin' banties that were my kids pets. i shot the dog on MY land with MY chicken in its mouth after telling the owner, just the day before,in person what would happen the next time the dog was on my property & after 2 months of phone calls that were ignored. the asst. prosecutor told me i had no right to shoot the & advised me to continue the case & hire an attorney. after talking to 2 atts. quoting outrageous fees i went to the library. after 35 years i still remember- Missouri state statute 273, section 03: any dog caught in the act of chasing, maiming, or killing sheep or any other livestock in the state of Mo. can be PURSUED & KILLED. footnote somebody vs somebody in 1957 supreme court said that chickens are considered livestock in Mo ( not so in kansas). xeroxed that law & got notarized affidavits from other people who had had problems with this dog & the prosecutor ( not the asst. ) dismissed the case. i then sued the guy in small claims & collected close to $1000.00.
I then ( i actually got this idea from a walt disney show ) started putting bear, lion & wolf sh*t ( i had a friend working at the zoo )in & around the brand new barn of the guy who snitched on me. i kept it up for over a year. now & again I"d hear him & others discussing the mystery of why most of his cattle would not go near the barn.
i"m an easy going fella", to a point. what"s the old adage? don"t get mad......

Good for you. Thanks for sharing your experience. First thing is I live inside the city limits of a little ole one horse town, so naturally the trashy neighbor has the dog pen at he furtherest corner of his lot which makes it right next to the corner of my lot..Lots further from his bedroom than it is from mine..What a sweet guy...Also makes the pen be close to two other neighbors.I called the guy at 2:30 a.m. some time back and they seemed to bring the dog under control for a long while, but a dog is a dog and will occasionally have to be yelled at or otherwise disciplined to being them back under control. It's really a sorry, trashy neighbor problem.Poor dog has to tolerate the idiot too.

use milky spores , it will killl the grubs , then you wont have to worry about the moles. Thet wont have any feed in your yard.

this is definitely an owner problem. people just don't seem to understand that the rest of the world does not have to tolerate the bad behavior of their unleashed, untrained & undisciplined animals. most of the farmers that i've known over the years would have shot their own dog as soon as it was verified that it was killing or harassing livestock. i'm laid off & cannot afford to build a fence just now. BUT-i have about an hours worth of brush-hogging left to do on my back line. once that is cleared i'm going to run a very high powered electric stock fence
( i already own one so no money is required ) & light their big furry butts up. i hope i'm home to hear the 1st encounter.

It seems to me to be a simple matter to use a weed-burner to pump the propane/air mixture into the tunnel, then use a BBQ-lighter on the end of a stick to set it off.

i was studying their equipment. they're blending oxygen with the propane. i'm thinking you could use a cutting torch to blend the gases. take the tip holder off & adapt a pipe fitting to that. my wheels are spinning!!

i found on their website a heading for procedures.
when you hit that it shows you the video you get is the one they send you when you buy one. they are using ox/acet. gauges & a combo mixing head torch to mix the gas. looks like initial thoughts were on the right track. they are also using anti-back-flow valves ( which also occurred to me ) so any fire cannot get back to the gauges & more importantly the tanks. so it looks like the main thing to build is a variant of their wand & an ignition system. the hose hookup look like compressed air quick fittings like the ones used with jack hammers. i've done enough 'creative' engineering over the years that i should be able to come up with something that works.
