Noticed Jde's reply on H.F and other makes of tools. Well we needed a wrench 1-1/4" for the BobCat drive chain . Sears wanted more just to purchase this wrench then the whole set from Farm & Fleet $19.99 + tax. They are all guaranteed for life time and no questions asked how they broke. we won't use this wrench on the bobcat again(at least We hope so) unless the other side fails . SON has all kinds of tools /welders/hand grinders/impact wrenches. And he didn't pay an arm and a leg for em .Just a note , I bought a set of craftsman deep well sockets ,back when I had the J.D.420 .Now one of the sockets split down the side. (Hairline crack) so We will take it back for exchange.Nothing is indistructable when it comes to tools.Price doesn't mean quality either way. Paying high prices doesn't mean the tool wont break at some point in time. So Maybe the old addage works"LESS IS MORE" JMHO reguards LOU

and the real nice thing about cheep tools is they get lost just like high priced ones but don't cost a lot to replace. i have a set of open end and sockets in every peace of eq. i own so i have them at hand all the time and if some one takes then so what i'm out 30.00 but they will replaced with in the week

Looks like a good set. Some people just dont get that you dont always have to spend a boat load of money on tools. That $5 tool will prolly see just as much use (and prolly more abuse) as that $50 tool!

and just think of the bowls of rice you are buying when you purchase some of these cheap and usually imported sets of tools-- that being said-- i recently bought a set of stanley pliers-- got them home and they too are made in china-- some sears tools are also made in china-- to my knowledge craftsman is made here-- as are snap on.

Chuck. DON't quote me but from what I have heard Craftsman tools are now imported. China Maybe? Better get use to eating rice/fish heads lol.Lots of employment for honey dippers for the rice paddy's lol. When buying these tools, My son says we are cutting out the middle man and supporting their economy with out the big STIMULAS give aways to foriegn governments.

Right you are. Sorry about the double post though. Most of our tools aren't expensive but serve the purpose. Cost analysis works in our favor. Don't have to be a bean counter to know a person can save hard earned dollars by getting the same warranty on tools that the expensive ones carry. Thanks for the reply

Best set of wrenches, I ever owned, is a set of wrenches marked made in India, this was bought in the late 70's, when I was a teenager. It was a set, a that has 5 combination wrenches, in a steel snap bracket, that holds all of them together. I remember spending the last 2 or 3 dollars, in my pocket, at Dart Drug, to buy them. I have had a cheater pipe on that 1/2, and 9/16 wrench, many times, and sometimes, I hooked them together, and stood on them. That is saying something, as I am no lightweight!

With only 11% of the U.S. work force engaged in manufacturing, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what the odds are of finding ANYTHING made in the USA.

I just bought the exact same set of wrenches, except they are "polished", at Harbor Freight the day before yesterday. List price was $24.99, I had a 20% off coupon that brought the price down to $19.99 plus tax.

Only thing I don't like about the set is the plastic roll up case they came in. I predict it will last about a day in a toolbox.

This set will reside in the back of my truck. I don't want to spend much on this stuff; the probability of theft/loss is high.

P.S. I also bought a 1/2" drive set of SAE sockets for $14.00 on clearance. Looks like it was a great deal.

I guess it's been 3 or 4 years ago, but I bought a whole mess of Dura-Craft tools at a Blaine's Farm and Fleet (I think was the name) that got toted around in my truck toolbox (and most of it still does) after the stuff I had got ripped off.. I've had a lot of good luck with them.. Just as good as anything in my opinion.

Just my opinion

If the cheap tools work for you, then use them, but I have found that the cheap stuff usually does not break, but rather is very good at rounding over the corners of the head on a bolt, or a nut, and then you've got even more problems than you had before, and no, not all of the cheap tools are that way. I've got a handful or so of the imported wrenches myself, but when I know the job at hand is going to be a tough one, or if the head of a bolt is already rusted and pitted, my choice is always my OLD Craftsman wrenches, OR my Snap-ons.

I"ve got plenty of HF tools including 3/4"" and 1"" drive socket sets, I bought mine several years ago and they are 6 point sets. I work on excavators, dozers, tractors, balers etc. with no problems and cheater pipes and hammers are the accessories of choice. .

We all complain because we can no longer find made in U.S.A. parts for our vintage tractors and other machines, but then we willingly go out and buy made in China tools. I guess if you're going to be installing made in China parts, you may as well be using tools that are made in China also..

Yep .. Snap-On, Proto, Old Craftsman, SK, hand tools have dominated my tool boxes for the reasons you stated... I used to pull Wrenches 40-50 hours a week and my GOOD tools held up well...I would have the occasional failure, or eventually wear out a socket.. These tools earned their keep, and I have no regrets buying my good tools...

I have my share of the cheapo tools also.. The best thing they have going for them is their low price..

I try to match the tool to the job to the pocketbook...

Hey guys! Remember when Japan was feeding us all the cheap stuff. I have a little socket set (3/4 on down--standard and metric). I keep it in truck toolbox for little work. Have never broken a socket but the ratchets (1/4 & 3/8) both didn't last very, just twisted all apart. Just think, Japan lost all that trade to China now.

Just read your post and was thinking about the set of wrenches i have been using my whole life...it is somewhat mix and match but a number of the wrenches say india...can't remember the brand and it is cold out right now, but i never put 2 seconds of thought to it until now...those are darn good wrenches.

Don't be so sure that those Duracraft tools are any different than the tools you would have picked up at Sears. I unpacked a Duracraft Vac I picked up over the weekend. The manual says for parts contact ShopVac at www.shopvac.com. Shop Vac makes the machine and slaps on the Duracraft label. The machine is just as much a Shop Vac as the yellow one, just this one is blue.
