o/t the finger/mental problem?

Its beginning to seem like the middle finger is as common as a hand shake.

Yesterday I wanted to make a left turn into a business, I waited in the center lane for the person in front of me to pull in. The oncoming traffic cleared twice and the person still didn't move, she was busy talking on her cell phone. I tooted my horn, she gave me the finger.

This thought occurred to me and I wanted to ask this question.

If a person is in the habit of giving the finger, is it a sign of mental problems?

Oh, I forgot to mention that she gave me the finger again after I asked her how long she thought I should have waited!

I dunno man people sure aren't polite sometimes, especially in their car.
I HATE to use the horn so when I do I try to make it a friendly toot toot like when reminding somebody the light has changed and you'd like to go before it changes back.

Surprisingly it seems like here in Taxachusetts people have actually become a bit more polite on the road. They've slowed down too. To save fuel I hold 'er to 65mph or below and I don't get passed as often as you'd think, sometimes I even have to pass people, even out on 495 where the speedlimit is 65.

Here in NY, is seems like everyone thinks they are the only one on the road, and most folks are in a big hurry. Too busy putting on makeup, talking on phone, eating their lunch, etc to pay attention to a menial task like driving.
The middle finger enjoys a lot of use here, as do car horns.
Whenever I am graced by someones middle finger or horn, I wave and smile like they are my long lost friend. Boy, does that tick em off!

WOW! I work retail and if a customer had said that to me in the store I would hav ripped the phone out of his had and threw it out the door informing him never to set foot in our place again!!!!!!

I just laugh at those types and sympathise with them that they never knew who both of their parents were.

I had that happen to me a few years ago. Some guy flipped me off as he passed me and i used a finger to point him over to the side of the road so we could talk about his actions. He didnt seem interested in that at all.

LOL. At least you know what you did. Not long ago I was coming up on a stop sign on my way back to work from lunch there was a lady pushing a baby stroller down the road. she was right in front of me even though there was a sidewalk. We were about 200 ft from the stop sign. Well out of the corner of my eye I see a car coming on the other road with the turn signal on to turn onto the road I was on. So I turned my signal on and waited behind the lady. Well we come up on the stop sign I was about 50 ft behind the lady and I waited for her to get out of the way before turning. Well she did and turned around and stared at me. I looked both ways and preceded to turn. She gave me a nasty look and gave me the finger....OOH....what did I do? I just shrugged at her.

What is it about a phone that is more important then the person standing in front of you?

At the least take care of business before answering and at most beg to be pardoned, answer the phone and tell the caller to hold a moment to finish the deal at hand.

If the call was so important that the whole store had to wait for him maybe he shouldn't have left work so early. If the boss let him leave then he would be understanding of having to wait a minute. Or maybe I just have a great boss.

I always thought that "the finger" was an open invitation for a *** kicking. During those appropriate moments I usually give the driver in front a gentle nudge (don't want to set off the air bags) to remind them of the task at hand.

I have read most of the comments and have the thought to return their favor, however,I always learn something from the finger fellows, and that is not to do it. You see how stupid it makes them look. They have the problem. I also have learned a lesson from people that swear and use the f word,if they use it to make their point,and get attention,their point is not worth taking.

Of course we live in a society that holds the individual over the group in the US. We revere individual rights, or used to to some degree. So part of that is people feeling like they own the road, blab on a cell phone loudly, talk in movie theaters, etc, etc. Doesn't give them any excuse at all though.
When I was in Italy a few years ago, for instance, you drive in the right lane instead of the left, passing, lane. Everyone was doing that. No numbnuts poking along in the fast lane. My personal pet peeve lol. Italians are famous for their hand gestures too.
Times change... I bet our discourse would seem crude to someone from the early 1900's even though we hold ourselves to what we believe is a higher standard than the rest of the rabble. Some change is good, some not so like everything else.
Chivalry and courtesy are waning. Come to think of it I see verbal fingers flying here all the time. Et tu Brute?

I would like for someone to invent a device that will break the connection on any cell phone withing 100 feet of me. On second thought, it would probably cause a lot of wrecks when they all tried to redial.

Years ago, I was getting gas and a young lady came out of the store with a large paper cup of coke and she sat it on the roof of her car, got her keys out and got in her car forgetting her drink, well I tried to wave at her to let her know and she flipped me off and started her car and drove off making a hard left turn on to the street.and the drink fell off and in to her window and covered her with coke and ice.what a mess !she pulled over and when I paid for my gas I drove past her and laughed. she just looked down. mike

I"m guilty of the finger once in a while.

The last time it was an idiot who passed me on the right side going 20 MPH over the limit. I was on the road with the tractor and it had just narrowed up from a 4 lane road to a 2 lane.

The intersection ahead was closed and that"s the only reason I was on that side-I had to go around like every body else, even though our farm is less than 2000 ft. from that intersection.

When he had to turn around up ahead and drive back from where he came from, I gave him the finger and he just had that mistified look in his face like he didn"t put me in any danger by his actions.

I don"t just go throwing it around like everybody else seems to do, but once in a great while it does happen, and I make sure I"ve got a good reason to do it.
