O/T Ticket Problem Solved!

Well I got 2 calls back this morning. One from Lt. Crampton of Mich. State Poilce. He said yes the officer was wrong and they were going to dismiss the ticket. But he was VERY snotty and short.The other call was from The Cheif Administrator Brenda Dittrich. She was more helpful, told me the same thing and apologized. But I requested it in writing from her, (the dismissal). I also asked why the offficer was yelling at me. She didnt know anything about it and was going to reveiw the dashboard recording of the entire stop. I told her if he is that angry, maybe he needs some help. She agreed, and if she finds evidence of this they going to bring the officer in for psychiatric evaluation. Kinda scarry if he has a temper like that and a gun.But thankful that is out of the way.



Anyway in Eastern Mich it was a balmy 3 Deg. this morning, and warming up to 22 deg. My cows didnt want to get up this morning.

Funny thing that a friend of mine bought a tractor from me, and we have been hiding it from his wife. Well he decided to brake the news to her over dinner tonight...I told him he might want to grab a few pillows out of the bedroom and put them on the couch before he goes to dinner.


And tractor and equipment sales is SLOOOWWW today. Any body want to buy a tractor?

I looked back and couldn"t find your original post on this but from what I gather the bull didn"t treat you very well. We have a post in Grand Haven about 4 miles from my house and the state cops are usually some of the better guys to deal with. The county and the local guys always act like they have something to prove to me.

You should be glad that your persistance paid off and you have someone looking into the administrative side of what is wrong here. Frankly I have lived in Michigan most of my life and my wife and I are starting to ask why we stay here. The roads don"t get plowed here near as much, no salt or sand to keep you from sliding through the intersections, and nothing but higher costs for those of us who are left here in the state.

Our beloved governor Jenny never got my vote in the first place and I sure won"t change my mind next time around.

To bad you can"t attend the dressing down of the guy! A cop with an attitude is one thing but a cop with an attitude and is wrongfully accusing.......

I have been pulled over many times in my youth, mostly speeding. I always appreciated the kind cops, even while writing me up, and the ones with an attitude just give them all a bad name.

I had one a few years ago write me up for expired tabs. I just put new ones on the month before. I had to take it to court. He didn"t even bother to show up.

From watching the news, it appears that law enforcement has a new punishment for insubordination that doesn't rise to the level that they can justify shooting you: They TAZE you instead! Several troubling episodes lately, where the "perp" isn't showing any indications of violence, just being kind of a jerk. "Well, we'll just show HIM!" BTW, glad you finally got them to dismiss- Court rules in every state, I think, give you the next business day if the deadline for doing something falls on a weekend or holiday. That's pretty basic stuff- don't know why an officer wouldn't know.

I feel your pain brother.I had a N.J. State trooper for a neighbor for about 15 years.I don't know what they are teaching them at the acadamey,but,when they put that uniform on,they think that what ever you have they are intitiled to it.They all think alike.

Our state troopers are generally OK. It's the county deputies that scare me. I am really, honestly more afraid of the deputies than I am of the crooks!. They pay a starting deputy $26,000. I'm sorry but that is not enough money to get the quality of folks who I would turn loose with a gun! And it does not matter what the facts are, a deputy can write up a report and the prosecutor believes them 100%. And if there are two of them they will lie for each other. Then you have to spend your hard earned money and time to prove you are innocent, and they have unlimited tax payers money to mess with you. As you probably know I have suffered through this first hand.

Yup,so cold up here in mid Michigan,I had to milk the cow into a waffel cone. That's funny about the trooper needing a shrink. I suggested that about a teacher in a meeting with her and the high school superintendant one time over her going eye popping,spitting drooling nuts with my oldest son. She broke down in tears and said she didn't need help. Kinda thought she made my point right there. She wasn't back there teaching the next year. Wonder why.

Just wanted to say Hi, nice to have another person from West Michigan on the tractor board. I grew up in Montague and one of our highlights was to come down to Fricanos on a Saturday night. I have a small farm in Kent City now but during the summer run a landscape company, in fact I do the landscaping at the business just south of the state police post there in GH, between the Post and Robbins rd.
Sorry for going to politics guys, but yea, have no warmth for that Canuuk bat in Lansing either.

Im sure there are some idiot cops out there just like there are idiot people. Sometimes though I"d understand if one of them would just flip out cause the crap they got to put up with these days is crazy!! Say for instance If you would mouth off to a cop in another country they would probably just beat the sh*t out of you right on the spot. if you ever watch shows like COPS some of those people on there need a good butt whoppin!! Just to add another slant based on experience- Probable cause is needed to pull someone over and check for drunks- main reason. Possible drugs, weapons, stolen vehicles, improper registration, no insurance secondary but usefull public safety issues. Any little excuse to pull over and check- possible observe Drunk or something - will be used as officer feels like it and is encouraged to use. Expired plate is valid excuse- a drunk driver found as part of traffic stop wil not get eveidence suppressed. A couple of police have eventually admitted to trolling for drunks after checking me out after late night after work stops. Couple others have noted they catch 2-3 suspended drivers, bad registrations a month just by picky stops, a stolen vehicle every couple months. They write the ticket for defective taillight, failure to signal or expired tag and have it timed 2 minutes before the ticket for drunk, or whatever. If no drunk or other bust the ticket- warning or repair by also- is written to match dispatch log of pullover for something- officer wasn't seeing girlfriend or doing something improper. RN

The Michigan State police have an internal affairs dept. that a friend works in. She says they investigate all problem officers in detail and prosecute when necessary. She has received anonymous death threats from some individuals.

Fricanos is the best pizza I've ever had but it also the greasiest pizza I've ever had. Don't want to set the carry out pizza on the car seat if you value the seat cover. Use to frequent that place in the 60's and the wife just has to have one when we visit over there. We have even sent a box with three Fricano's pizzas to her brother in Georgia. It would seem that they could build a larger place after being in business that long. Maybe the nostalgia would not be the same in a new place.

All this talk of traffic stops, expired registration, etc. has got me thinking of an incident my brother had many years ago. He forgot to get his cars annual safety inspection done. Didnt realize it until the last day of the month, so first thing on the first of the next month he got it done. On the trip back home police had a stop set up checking for expired registrations and inspection stickers. Usually they wait until atleast the 3rd or 4th of the month for these things but not this time. When my brother rolled through with a brand new sticker he got one heck of a dirty look from the cop. It would have took a belt sander to get the smirk of my brothers face. Nothing like beating them at their own game!

I had a prob with an oakland county dep here in mich just before christmas of 06 while driving a backhoe on the road. he was behined me and i had a bit more to go for a safe place to pull over, must not liked me not being scared of him. pulled me over and told me why i didnt have a smv told him didnt think i needed one cause of all the lights on ( beacon flashing head&tail stop turn and so on) said dosnt matter still have to have one, said sorry ill get one today. than he wanted to know what i was doing driveing on the road told him I was bowering it from a buddy and takeing it 3 miles down the road to a retired cops horse farm to load a dump truck with rap to spread on a driveway/road. This retired cop hapens to be my father inlaw and mostly liked and knowen in the area. he said never heard of him and that didnt matter you cant drive this thing down the road. Well i asked him since this machine wasnt alowed on the road why in hell do i need an smv? That PI**ED him off good. There was alot more said but I hate to peck on this thig to long. Finaly I told him i was 1/2 way between were i came from and going,What do you want me to do dep tunaround go back keep going or go to jail. he said to keep going but next time i was goin to get atlest a bunch of tickets.NOW A GOOD COP WOULD HAVE ASKED ME FOR SOME ID (HE DIDNT) TOOK THE SERIAL # OFF THE MACHINE ( HE DIDNT) write it down on his note pad and hang on to it for a week and see if some one reports a stolen machine HE DIDNT EVEN KNOW WHO OR WHAT I WAS! That tells me no one is looking out for your property. he was more mad that i didnt get out of his way as soon as i seen him and he was going to show me. the prob is i dont think he knows the law. anyone had probs like this? If anyone would like to know i will tell you about the trip home with the same machine in march of o7 WHAT A BLAST

TBF, you will appreciate the following incident. A couple of years ago, a young lady I worked with was driving on a hot July day out in a VERY rural area and when she pulled out from a side road, a county deputy pulled her over and informed her she had made a "rolling stop" at a stop sign. She replied that she knew she would have to take the ticket, but she wanted him to know she did make a full stop. He replied, "lady, if you give me any more backtalk, I will call for a search warrant and let you sit in the back of that patrol car with the air-conditioner turned off while we wait for the warrant". She calmly looked him in the eye and said "officer, that will be the biggest mistake you will make in your short law career". Apparently he saw his bluff wasn't working and went ahead and wrote her the ticket. What he didn't understand was that she wasn't bluffing. Her husband was one of the higher-ups in the TN Bureau of Investigation - one of their responsibilities being to investigate complaints of unprofessional conduct in County Sheriff's offices. I often wonder what line of work he is in now. Maybe he moved to Michigan???

Yea, I think you are completly right about why Fricanos has never built a new place. I have been to the one in Muskegon and 2 of the stores in GR and they just aren"t the same. There is just something about sitting in the half dark dining room, oh that pizza is good. Between Fricanos and Mr Scribs, I think West Michigan has 2 of the best pizza places I have found in 3 states. And ya just have to get the anchovies on them,lol.

I remember the town marshal in West Harrison, IN apologized to my mom for ticketing for for over time parking (50 cent fine). He didn't recognize her car.

When my youngest sister has born his wife baby-sat us older kids.

Not all small town cops are idiots or on power trips, just the ones you remember.

I sometimes wonder about that bad cop talks of many others. But one wonders .. why don't you go join the Law Enforcement as a "Cop" as you say.
Become a Law Enforcement Officer and get out there everyday and protect someone else's family! Why set back and bad talk about them?
Now I am not saying there is no bad apples in the basket. This does happen here and there. But few of them make it to retirement.

Fricano's had a small non-alcohol store on Washington back in the 60's but it never really took off like the old house on Fulton by the Tannery.

Hi Guys,

Small world huh. I am working at a foundry in Montague now selling investment castings.

I met my wife while working at the Gardner-Denver plant across the street from Fricano's. (1974)

Update on that area is that the old sand foundry (Grand Haven Brass)that was straight across from Fricano's has been leveled and there is a HUGE boat storage facility there now. The tannery has been closed and the property is now listed for sale @ $2.0 million. Now if anyone could get the environmental issues taken care of that would probably be a good price for all that waterfront property.
