O/T windshield wipers quit

I have 2000 Chev Silverado with a 6 liter engine. The drivers side windshield wiper was frozen to the windshield and the passenger side went up about half way before stopping. I got drivers side thawed out but now they don't work. If I turn the switch to the highest speed, the wipers want to push down and pop up a little when I turn the switch to off position. I'm wondering if the shaft inside the wiper arm turned and the wipers are trying to go the wrong way or what else could be wrong? Of course it's warmer and slushier now this happened. Any advice would be appreciated. Dave

Thers a linkage in there that can be hosed up. I don't think the thing will strip out, it is designed to not do that.

There is a serrated shaft which comes out of the gearbox and engages the crank arm. Loosen up the nut that holds the arm to the wiper motor / gearbox and turn on the wipers to allow the gearbox / controller to go back to the home position. Then position the wiper blades at their home position on the windshield and tighten the nut on the gearbox shaft. That should fix it. If not you may need a new controller on the gearbox.

Something is wrong with the transmission linkages (bent/stripped). It is out of time with the motor and it is forever trying to "park" but it can't because the throw is wrong.

Fix the transmission linkage/pivot before you ruin that expensive motor.

Not sure about your truck, but wifes car has taper fit at the end of wiper blade arm. The taper slips, putting wiper blade arm out of position. Loosen nut,put back into position. Years ago , the end of wiper blade arms were splined. Now they are taper fit. At least on the wifes GM car.

The moral here, of course, is NEVER turn the wipers on until you're sure they're free; annoying, and only too easy to not notice, but expensive if something inside motor stripped or jammed. (BTDT).

It does have the taper ends and has slipped before. I thought maybe loosening the nut would let it reset itself but wanted another opinion. Thanks. Dave

Take a trip to the junk yard and get another assembily. It wont cost that much. Pain in the butt to put in but I can guess you will not make that move again! The Ex did that twice with her K car in about a one month period! Both times the arms came loose.
