OBD/OBDII Scanner...Which One?

Does anyone sell a decent OBD/OBDII scanner/code reader for around $50.00? I can't justify spending a lot of money.

Any number of them floating around on EBay...
Probably can get one at most big box stores, auto discount stores. I got one off EBay in that price range. Does a little more than read and erase codes, If you want to do much more, you're into lots of $$$$. Reading the codes, and ease a lot of anxiety, especially if you don't have a discount store nearby that will read for free!

At least get one that can read data. Knowing the code is only a start. If you can see what the computer sees, you have a much better chance of fixing it the first try.

I bought one, in 2002, that shows realtime data (what is happening at the sensors now) and then had to spend another $150 for books to tell me what the normal operating ranges are. These books are brand, model and year specific. One book for GM, one for ford, one for Chrysler all are about 1200 pages each. I didn't get the books for European or Rice burners. My scanner was $700 and was outdated in two years with no updates available. I spent alot of money just to be able to look at mine and my friends autos. I might have made enought to pay for the books.

Well, mine is a Toptak TP280CAN.

It will do everything you really need, including a direct read out of what is wrong instead of just a code.

Should be able to get one bought on eBay for around that $50 you want to spend. DOUG

remember ,a scanner will only show you data . Think Cause and effect ! Just because it shows o2 sensor code or bad sensor reading does not mean that part is defective !

It is a OBDII scanner. Will work on all 1996 and newer.

Mine will read SOME of the older OBD, but it is hit and miss on which ones. DOUG

I've had this one for about a year, and have used it a bunch of times for mine and the kids cars & trucks.
Works great.

It's actually an Autel Maxi-Scan MS309.
