odd ball 8n inline 6 engine need help

I hav a 1948 8n it has what I am being told is a flathead inline 6 engine rated at 95 h.p. in it. I have been told there were one thousand of these produced. I am trying to find a water pump and pulley for it. the numbers on the water pump are
118612 scc0.2 7ha8505.

If anyone has any idea any help would be greatly appreciated I am not finding much info on these, I have been told it was called a funk kit and the majority of the funk kits were v8 flatheads? thanks for any help..

Actually, it seems about 5000 6-cylinder kits were produced and perhaps a couple of hundred V-8 kits.

The engine is a light truck/industrial engine of 50's vintage... I can't remember the C.I.D., so you should be able to get a a re-man waterpump from an autoparts store having books that go back that far, a Cardone re-man, perhaps.

These six cylinder engines were Fords and were essentially the same engines Ford put in their automobiles. Take the pump off and take it in to your car parts dealer and ask for a 49 Ford six pump, then compare it to the old one just to make sure.

CID is 226. The v8 is 239.

Front mount distributer or side mount? They have different water pumps. I got one for my son's Funk 6 cyl front mount from Kantor.com
I have a NOS pump for a earlier 40's 6 cyl for sale. I overhauled it last summer and it runs sweet. The extra power is awsome.
I also know of someone who has a number of complete engines to get a used pump to rebuild.

thanks all for the help, i will check out the tips. the tractor was on running and caught fire due to a fuel leak but for $300 I think its worth saving. It is a side mount distributor.

Does anyone know if the funk water pump pulleys are the same as the standard 8n?

The funk 6s were new army surplus, purchased by Funk for the conversions. The 6s are not all identical, and a bigger truck 6 could be used. A few funks used the '53 OHV six. I have a few parts.

There are at least two different versions of pulleys. If your pulley is good, simply press the pulley off the old water pump and press onto the new.

As has been said, ask for a water pump for a 1949 to 1951 Ford car or truck 226 CI flathead engine. Most engines were actually industrial units, but were pretty much identical to the truck.

The kit was purchased from Funk Aircraft out of Coffeyville, KS, and the engines were purchased seperately from Ford (or wherever one was available). They could be installed by the owner, a repair shop, and sometimes by Ford dealers themselves (though not sanctioned by Ford). The number of flathead 6 engine kits far exceeded the number of V8 kits.
