Offset Disk model

I am looking for a good heavy duty offset disk - 7-10 feet. Basically any make but I don't know the model numbers of any to look them up.

Taylorway makes a good harrow, also Athens which I THINK is Rhino now. John Deere is good.

Is there an advantage to an offset tandem over a plowing tandem that weight the same amount? All things equal will offset plow deeper? Where I live soil types change so much in the same fields that offsets don't work very well.

Thanks,Jim

Around 'here', offsets were considered......and often called........new-ground disks. The one we had came with JDs 24 inch 'cone' blades. We wore the blades down to the nub before replacing them; never broke a blade, never replaced a bearing..........'til it was rebuilt with all new blades and all new bearings. It left a furrow similar to that of a turning plow, except on the right rather than the left; it was used with the left side of the tractor/disk always (as much as possible) to the tilled side......to fill in the previous furrow. Main difference I see between it and tandem disk; if you disk between 2 below ground stumps or BIG roots that are the right distance apart with the tandem, somethings gonna give........probably a blade. With the offset, it just slides around the obstruction.

In our sandy clay loam soil takes more power to pull a single type offset than double offset. Single offset doesn"t have to go deeper to do a good job more important is having it set right and leveled correctly and enough power to pull it straight and it won"t leave ridges then. The smaller special covering disks on one side helps also. Most that have more angle adjustment will have adjustments to slide the drawbar over more to one side also which is needed for it to pull right. Trying to go too deep and too fast will result in breaking something usually the axle bearing hangers. Set properly you can most times do a lot better job with a single offset. They do not work well in dry hard ground but then what does.
