Offset/tandem disc harrow

I'm looking for a 8' transport disc harrow to use after plowing and possibly to use instead of plowing.I'm not clear about when to use an offset and when to use a tandem disc. I'd like to make an intelligent purchase.
I'd like to hear people's comments on their experience. I'll be working stony and sandy loam, as well as some clay loam. Reclaiming old orchard land as well as reseeding hayfields. Basically, a little bit of everything.
Thanks for your help.

Around "here", an off-set disc is strictly a primary tillage tool, used in new ground, sod, etc. and will require 12-15 HP per foot of cut. Tandem disc is used where ground is in continual row-crop..........will be different in other places.

actually i got both types...use the offset for fresh cleared ground and leveling pastures when the hogs come thru...it works faster than the tandem but doesnt leave ground as prepared for seeding as the tandem...anyhow thats what works for me.

Thanks. That's the advice I needed. What I'm looking for then is a tandem to use for secondary tillage and seedbed preparation.
