Disaster.

I was pulling off the infamous ballast resistor this morning to give it a check on the ohm meter and I must have touched the negative battery strap to the ampmeter. Had a temporary gas tank scrounged from my snowblower hanging up above and the whole thing caught fire. What a mess. I am just sick after all the time I put into this thing. Thanks to Dell, Jmor, Bruce, and all the others- you guys are great, but I don't think I'll need any more help. This thing is going for scrap now and I have my eye on a John Deere down the road.

Thanks again

That's a shame. Sorry to hear that. Glad to hear you weren't hurt.

But, before you throw in the towel......a guy on the NTC board had a torched Jub that he brought back to life. If it's too far gone for that, you might get a few bucks parting out what's left.

im in southeast mi.,if you are close to me i can help you get it back together if you need, dont give up to easy, i have done a lot of work on my 8n that other family members thought i was stupid to be doing, told me to get on the farmall and forget the ford, well the farmall H hauls the haywagon, the ford does the work.

how bad is it burnt?hopefully it didnt take your garage with it.steel doesnt burn too well, probably some new wiring and rubber parts will fix it,or most of it.wish you were closer i'd buy it for scrap.sorry for your loss.

Did he actually complete that chore? Last I heard he was "taking bids" on the job.

Too bad about the fire....BUT, seems to me like others have said, .....Don't throw in the towel just yet.
As many guys, that have "N"'s in upper and lower Mich., If I were you, I would put out a call for some "N" help, from those guys. They would prob. be able to assess the damage and help ya get it back up to snuff.
You already have one offer of help, and you really haven't tried yet.
Don't get sick about it.......get mad, and fix the "N". Then set back and crow about what you can accomplish!!!!
Roll up yer sleeves and get with it!!!!!
Just my 2 cents!!!

Ken - Before ya throw in the towel, at least give us a chance to give ya a hand. How bad is it burnt? Got pics? Where are you located in Michigan? I'm in SW MI. I've done some crazy things helping others that thought things were too far gone to try. Show us what you're up against. There's lots of help out here. Email is open. JMO

MAN!!!! You dont ever joke like that!!Most guys on here would run to save their tractors if the house was on fire!!thats just WRONG!LOL..by the way I would expect some kind of payback from these guys if I was you!

Sorry to hear this Ken.

Lots of folks have taken burnt up tractors and refurbished them.

Do you have this covered on your homeowner's insurance? Mine is covered for full replacement cost. Check it out.

Where are you at?

Say 3 Hail Henry's, drink 6 adult beverages & it'll be awright.

I was about to post this, but didn't, because I thought it not 'right', if his was a true story.

Bob- I'm in the Lansing area. Just have an old 2n with a front end loader I use for lifting and a blade for grading the driveway. Was going to plow snow last winter but blew the head gasket back in November. It started snowing just as I was ready to put it all back together and it never stopped snowing all winter. K
