Oil Filter Canister Leaking

I am restoring a 1950 8N. When I completed reassembly and started the engine, oil poured out under the lid of the oil filter canister. I tried tightening the bolt that goes through the top of the lid but it seem to get worse. I think I got all the gaskets in the correct places.
How tight should the bolt through the top be torqued?
Could the leak be caused by over tightening the bolt?
Any suggestions?

Do you have a gasket under the bolt? Did you wet the large O ring gasket & seat it in the lid?

And check to make sure that no old gasket material is stuck on the lid.

The lid was cleaned and repainted inside and out. There is no old gasket material remaining.
There is a gasket under the bolt head.
There is a small gasket under the lid on top of the filter around the center where the bolt screws into.
The oil is coming from under the lid lip, not around the bolt.

Would a blocked line going from the filter canister to the govenor cause the canister to leak, or is it able to handle full pressure without leaking?

Any other ideas.

Make sure mating surfaces are flat, especially the lid. I guarantee it is not an overpressure problem.

As an aside, don't like the idea of paint on the underside of the lid. Otherwise check for any small cracks in the canister and like the others said, the canister edge has to fit pretty much flush to the gasket nested in the lid. You don't need to boom down too tight. Changed my oil over the weekend...only tightened it a couple turns past contact. Doesn't leak.

See if theres any paint in the seal groove that might be interfering with the gasket fit.
