Oil Filter on 9N

I stopped by the local tractor dealer last week and picked up a filter for the 9N. What he gave me was a Fram filter #C3. I know this is a newbie question, but, the current filter is a metal can with handle. Does the C3 go inside this metal can or does it go in by itself? I assume it goes alone since the top of the C3 has a metal ring I assume to support the spring.

I've used the metal and paper filters. I think the ring is to pull it out with. You need to drain then take the top off the filter housing and lift out the old filter. Then just put the new one in.

I saw the Fram C3 at TSC last time I bought an oil filter for my 9N. Right next to it on the shelf was (if I recall correctly) a Fram C3P, which is the metal can variety. That's the one I got. I've never used just the paper filter, but it was cheaper.

Yep.. c3 and c3-p are interchangeable, as well as the napa 1010gold.. all work on this bypass oil system on the N..

I recently bought an 8N and I changed the oil and oil filter. Sure enough it leak around the lid of the cannister. I came read the forum for this subject found the answer. I went to NAPA and bought a NAPA 1010 gold filter which has the seal. Believe me it worked. No more oil leaking from the cannister. Thank you guys for acknowledging questions on this forum.
