Oil wt for Hydrostatic Trans

I have a Troy-bilt GTX16 with an Eaton Hydro trans which calls for 20wt oil. I am repairing an oil line and will replace the lost oil. Can I use a multi-viscosity like 10-20wt or 5-20wt? When cold started the trans. really makes noise, like it could use some lighter oil. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tim

I would contact Troy Bilt to see what they recommend. I have an old Wards tractor with hydrostatic drive & hydraulic lift and it uses transmission fluid. I've had it 38 years. Hal
