Old hay rake

I have this old hay rake with metal wheels, and have no idea what brand it is. The wheels look like they were yello, and the rest was maybe red, not sure thought. Can anyone help me figure it out?

If you could post a photo I'm sure it will be identified for you - without one most old rakes fit that description and would just be guesses, Hal.

Ok, here is a picture. I hope it helps.

That is a International Harvester 4 bar high wheel tractor side rake. That model was built from the 1930's up to the mid 1950's.

I have also been told it might be a Massey Harris Rake. Im just wondering how you can tell that its a International Harvester.

Its got an International hitch on it. The wide wheels threw me off at first.Never knew they were an option.

After you said that someone thought it might be a Massey Harris, I looked up the Massey model 11 hay rake. The frame on your rakes does look a little different. The Massey and IH are very simular. Your picture isn't very good. Can you take a better picture of the rear caster wheels and how they mount to the frame? Also, the V tractor hitch, does it hook to the tractor with a clevis or is it a regular drop in pin type of hitch?

I have the advertising brochures on the IH and the MH hay rakes. The pictures of the earlier rakes show they are altogther different. But the pictures of the IH and MH tractor rakes look almost like each other.

I have International brochures A-102-HH, A-200-NN and CR-148-C.

I have Massey Harris brochure ADV-364 REV. D51 80M. The Massey No. 11 rake is shown.

The frame, regular front wheels, crank to adjust the teeth, transmission and hitch are so close in looks that you almost can't tell them apart.

Based on the pictures of the rear wheels and the mounting hardware, even though they are simular, I will still say it is an International.

I don't have the equipment to post a picture(s). If you happen to see a Massey Harris number 11 rake you will see what I mean.

Thank you, I'm happy to finally know what it is. I'm sorry to keep asking questions, but it looks like it was repainted once, are the orginal colors blue frame and black wheels or red frame yellow wheels?

I am no expert on IH colors and the IH brochures are printed in black and white. I know that years ago IH used blue on a lot of their tools.

It looks like you are using the rake as yard art, and if so, paint it a color that blends in with your house and your yard.

Well, actually thats just where we park it for the winter, we use it every year. I was just thinking of repainting it. I was just asking because its frame is red and blue, same with the wheels being yellow and black, but i think the red paint is over the blue. I think ill go with blue and black if i do repaint it.

Hope my JD green buddies don't see this, but here is a link that might help you with the <a href="http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/libraryarchives/ihc/paint/results.asp?implements=Rakes&B1=Submit">paint color</a> for your rake.

We "think" our old rake is a McCormick from the '40s.

Hope this helps.

Once had one very similar, but had wood in places yours has steel. We removed a front wheel to grease it, and inside of the hub was stenciled "Deering" in yellow. Might be worth looking.

I went out and looked and well i found IH on all the places you said. So that means for sure it is International. I just cant believe I missed those marks.
