Old Iron Retreival

You know how it goes,

I was just gonna move the old hag 'cause it was parked right smack in my way. Okay, fine.

A new battery so it will start; last one was installed in 1985 and the old beast has been setting idle for 4 years. Hasn't turned a wheel and won't even grunt.

Well, maybe I'll just tighten up that steering a wee bit and fix that PS drip.

Then, I notice that it has a weak cross-over about mid throttle. What the heck, maybe a set of plugs, air filter and a carb overhaul while I'm at it? Nothin' else to do on a lazy Sunday afternnoon anyways.

Phooey!

Guess I'll go ahead, re-insure and license the old rat this morning. Might as well be using the silly thing now since I got it all fixed up! :>)

Speaking of old iron, this weekend 8 of us from our club retrieved 2 MH round hopper combines, one with a steel steering wheel and a mint shedded JD binder bought new in 1954,used 6 yrs.We bought the combines but the PTO drive binder was donated, included were canvasses still in the JD boxes and a new pitman arm.Needless to say the club members were feeling quite a sense of satisfaction when we got home. I hear that.

The old sucker crossed half a million miles way back in the late eighties sometime.

Just keeps right on a chuggin' and has never failed me yet. :>)

I totally rebuit the old sow back in 1988 with the newer style fenders, trim, paint and interior.

The running gear is all '95 and don't think it actually has had over 40K miles put on it since then. :>)

Y Allen i think it's to nice a truck to not use.
Heck even if you just put a fuel tank in it use to haul fuel to the ole work horse's it'd be worth alot.
We got one here ain't had a bath or oil chance sense don't know when.use it ever day.
And i know there's a brand new pair vise grips in that bed some where 2 year ago.boys where did you last see them.

If that is the orginal seat I'm impressed.

Did you ever notice how heavier guys have more trouble with seats busting down?

Allans kinda a light guy and I'm a fat a$$ so you know what my seats look like.(:~})

Bought this one brand new back in the late 70s. Seems to me it cost around $5K maybe? Remember thinking it was higher than a cat's back at that time, anyway.

It's no Power Stroke, but it'll sure fix fence, chase bulls and haul a grease gun for me. :>)

Naw,

It was all rebuilt.

Little guy isn't big enough to drag my trailers around, but guess the old beater sure ought to work for hauling fuel and the like. :>)

bout time ya got the old girl back on the road.. :) I've got an 81 that I've been thru from top to bottom and an 82 that I'm gonna fix up a little for my boys first truck, both shortbeds..

Remember the first ford diesel f350 we bought in 83 old 6.9 4 speed i think 11.000.
My my he thought he would set the world on fire.
Man look at them now.

And people want more out of them.

I bought a new F-250 with the 300 six and a 4 speed in 81 and it was 6500. The last new one I bought in 96 was almost 30,000. I guess I will never buy another new. What they cost now would make a down payment on a farm.

Hi Ya Tim,

I've only bought two brand new pickups. This last one was over 10 times the money of the first.

What's wrong with that picture anyways? :>(

I brought that issue up with the dealer when I was writtin' the check for this last one.

Thought maybe their prices were just a little on the "high" side?

He said, "Naw, it ain't so much if ya say it real fast". :>) Geeeze!

Well, thats the ride Im lookin for!! Naw, I never go much further then town, and I would rather fix up an old Farmsome and get that lisenced and insured. Is that really nessicary? (the lisence and insurence)

Nice looking old pickup. My first pickup was a '78 Chevy 1/2T 4x4. Only pickup that I ever missed when it was gone. I've always liked the 73-87s, probably because that's what style my first one was. Still have an '87 1/2T 4x4. Good old ranch pickup.

Allan, My 96 F-350 Power Stroke has been and is the best truck I ever had, but it damn well should be as I never gave that much for any other. I looked at a new one a couple years ago and I just couldn't bring myself to give that for another one. I paid my place off instead. Now if I just could afford to finish the house so I can get out of this furnace of a trailer I would have it whipped.

Nice One! Have a 1986 chev 1/2T 4X4 SB myself.. Has 49k original miles on it. Best Truck I ever owned. Bought it new in 86 and just redid all of the body work and paint. Nice to see others in similar shape.

You need to keep the old truck on the road. Too nice of truck to not be used. Like my 80 ford F350 they are sitll fairly easy to work on. Stan

Pretty nice for a beater truck. I can't help but notice that nice shiny tin on the roof behind it. Awfully nice roof for an area with no rain. :-)

I just got home from the tire store. Ordered new and received on 6.16.1986. Homemade exhaust including mufflers,6" lift,18 year old mag wheels, new 350, all original paint and interior. 63000 original miles.
