old JD elevators

I"ve got a old John Deere grain elevator, about 30 feet long, maybe 12 or 16 inches wide. It has two upright pipes that the cables go on to lift it. It there a link I can go to find out what model it is? I can"t seem to find a picture of it anywhere. Thanks

A lot of the John Deere grain elevators were made by a company in Indiana. At least the one my Dad had was made there. I don't have a picture of it, wish I did. Only one time did I see one, it was by a collector of old Iron out in Montana. Was years ago. The one my Dad had was made back in the 1920's.

I have the remains of a 50" JD elevator I believe is a 12" wide grain. We used it for as long as I can ever remember. This was until one of the cables snapped and it dropped causing it to buckle in the center. I don"t have a picture of it, but still have most of it in the weeds above the shop including the rubber tired spoked wheels. Do you need some parts? The drive sprokets are gone.

does it sit on a truck that has 4 wheels, if so it is a truss bridge elevator

STILL HAVE ONE ON CRIB DAD MOVED IT THERE AROUND 1940. STILL ON STEEL WHEELS. HE TOLD ME IT IS 1928. I REMEMBER HIM MOUNTING BIG COIL SPRINGS ON THE HOPPER FOR ME TO LIFT IT.I WAS 10 UNLOADED LOTS OF GRAIN AT 100 BU. AT A TIME. I AM 53 NOW AND WOULD NEED THE SRINGS AGAIN NOW.RENE'

You can do a search for "John Deere elevator" on ebay and find lots of manuals for them or call JD publications service at 800-522-7448. I scanned these from a 1931-33 JD farmers pocket ledger and put them here in vintage ad section. One more to follow. Copies of the JD 1837-1937 centennial booklet "Power Farming with Greater Profit" has pics of them too. The paddle elevators were usually equipped with a JD model E 3 HP engine.

Also from 1931-33 JD pocket ledger the JD bridge trussed elevator. The A framed section is the wagon dump lift by the elevator hopper. This one has horse powered shaft drive unit instead of a engine.

I did have one like you are describing. (Infact I still have most of it) Mine was a 40 ft. It was powerd by a gas engine. I don,t know the model no. but would guess it was made in late 40,s or early 50,s

All the John Deere info that I have says they had a 18" or a 21" trough, never a mention of anything narrower. And this info dates from the 20's thru the 60's
