Old threads

I don't disagree that there can be value to old threads and in some cases, they are worth bringing to the top. However, that is not the case with many. In some cases, it just adds confusion as replies may go to the original poster and problem, not the current poster's problem. I know this has been discussed in the past and there are mixed feelings on it.

I see a disclaimer used on some discussion forums such as "This is an older thread; you may not receive a response and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread." If such could be added to the reply to boxes of threads, maybe over a year or two old, here? That would not lock the thread from being pulled up but might reduce the number of the revived threads seen.

We are now about a year into the new software. I like the new format and appreciate the work the staff does to keep things going smoothly.

I like the occasional old thread. Keeps you focused and we talk old tractors.
The Polly thread was great . Who are these people? Then the lights came on.

I seem to remember one of the selling points of this new format being you could go back and comment add new pertinent information to year old questions.
You could also make a post that allowed you to give step by step details of a tractor build all in one post even if it took you 10 years to complete the build.

And that is why I mentioned a disclaimer, not locking a thread.

The dates are easily seen at the top left directly above the txt of every thread and every post. If one can read a disclaimer they should be able to manage reading a date.

It is easy to miss the date of posting.

But after being caught in that trap, and I have been caught, it is also easy to look for the posting date before replying.

What really makes me shake my head in amazement, (amusement?), are the ones who read the first post in a thread and reply to it with advice/instructions/etc. without reading through the rest of the thread/replies when the question/problem has been answered/solved/etc. previously or when other information has been added that changes the situation.

And that's not only here, it happens regularly on other sites as well.

Except the disclaimer is in BOLD RED and the post date in a thread is a piddily font size AND one shade of gray darker than the background.

The dates shown in the Similar Threads list that get inadvertently added to are not much better. A bit bigger font.

With this demographic I will have to disagree

Haven't been here long but have seen plenty-o-evidence why it's there.
