Old threads are not locked to prevent replies on the site. When someone makes a reply to an old thread it moves to the top of the list, just the same as a reply to a current thread moves that current thread to the top. This has been the case since the software was changed at the end of 2023 (The old Modern view did the same). How does an old thread show up as new. On tool talk the string trimmer thread is dated 9/17/24 yet says new. All the responses are from 2024 until the last 5 on page 2. Ol horses arse responded this am then several after including my two.
I have gained useful information from some of those late replies when searching for informationIMHO if after a set # of months threads were """closed to future replies but left open to read""" would solve that problem. I see no value in someone having ability to reply to a thread 5, 10 ore more yrs old when the possibility the person being replied to is no longer a member of this forum.
Just quote the post you are replying to, no confusion that way! And all you need to do it mash the "Reply" button in the bottom right of the post you are responding too.The other thing that bugs me is replying to someone's post used to show up directly after the post you are replying to, now it shows up at the end. Rant is over I'm all better now.

Easy Day![]()
I think a lot of people come on to the forum from a search engine when they are researching something, and reply to an old post that showed up in their search, not knowing how it effects the cascade of information on this forum.
