oliver 1600 hydraulic pump

Im looking at 1600 and the guys says the 3 point don't move and the power steering don't work. It is full on fluid. Any ideas? Does the pump run off a gear in the rear end or is it run off the pto shaft? If needs new pump how hard is it to find one?

It runs off the PTO shaft. Aftermarket pumps are easy to get and not all that expensive, somewhere around $400 last time I checked. You have to lift the top off the transmission/rear end. It there any pressure to the remotes? I'd be checking relief valves before I started replacing things.

Check to see if the bypass valve is open. Looks like a bolt with a locknut. It's behind the heel of you right foot low on the side of the housing. Loosen the nut and turn the bolt all the way in, tighten the nut.

That was the first thing that crossed my mind too Mike, but he said the steering doesn't work. After thinking about it, I wonder if the valve is open and it has a separate steering problem. I guess if the valve is open and the 3pt works after closing it, he could move on to the steering.

does the pto work under a load? If not your pto shaft is stripped!

If that's stripped, it'll make a noise that'll make you think the world is coming to an end.

I considered that when I posted. Could be an issue with the flow divider. Just wanted him to eliminate one possible problem. Could be a lot of things with the steering.
