Oliver 1650

Does anyone know what year they changed from the cross fire to the direct injection engine and what year the over-under was available in the 1650.

Both happemed in 1967, but not at the same time. The Direct Injection engine started in the summer and the 3speed became available in the fall. My brother has a 1650 that was built with the new engine and a 2 speed. The 3 speed was not availbile until a month or so after his tractor was built.

My 1650 has direct inj. and 2speed. Also high speed transmission. Remember a neighbors 1650 was quite close SN had 3speed.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like if I want both I need to find a late 67.

Rmember that a dealer could order his 1650's or any model (except 1550 or 1950) without the aux transmission, a Hydrapower or a Over/under 3 speed shift.   That was true until the Hydrapower was discontinued in 75 when the silver row crops came out.


Those high speed tractors with the three speed make real good tractor ride machines, will pass the IH's.  They discontinued the high speed trans shortly after because of too much speed.

Duane, You commet about too much speed remines me of a friend of mine that has a 1550 utility. He says the tractor will go as fast in 5th gear as others will in 6th. He said it's OK in 6th gear low range, but he doesn't know how fast it will go in direct, and no one has the guts to find out. His guess is it will do 30+ MPH.

Wew had a customer tht had a little older 1650 with the high speed rear end with a hydrapower and the ring & pinion failed. Oliver did not have one and sent one so the tractor was useable. After I installed that set he said "I don't need an SMV now". It would go close to 25 MPH. Later on they sent one of the improved ring & pinion sets plus I had to change a few other gears to get it back to normal. Also for Oliver Fan we received a semi load of the direct injection 1650 diesels in April of 67. The tractors had concevitive serial numbers 187-948 thrus187 951. Engine numbers were not. three of those were sold for spring 1967 farm work.
