oliver 1655 timing

i just set my timing on my oliver and i went by the book. it says 4 degrees btdc. but when the temp gets to about 160 it gets really rough. i also have my injector pump turned up 25% over fuel, could that be the problem? thanks

Have worked on diesel pumps since 1976, not sure what you mean by rough running. Full load fuel setting change by increasing roller to roller does not affect no load low or high idle speed or even part load. May need to have automatic speed advance checked, can be done on engine, if late may have high idle miss, if early will have more pronounced diesel knock. I set it on tdc but its still runs horrible. I have no idea what it is. But since I had the fuel turned up its started doing it.

Are you sure you have a 283 and not a 310? The best way to set it is put it on Jeff and Matt's dyno, load it up and tune it to the most HP.
