Hello all Im wondering what The special Decal was for on the oliver 1850 with the perkins Motor?

I think it was a low line budget model to keep the price down. Maybe no Over-Under, lesser seat, no cast wheel centers, etc. I'm not sure about all these things but I'm sure someone here will fill you in.

Does the decal say "Special"? The only stripped down "Special" I knew of was a 1750 or 1755,I forget which,but the wheels and trim on those was kind of a brown color instead of Clover White. Then there was a 1555 "Loader Special" that was REALLY stripped.

its a stripped down version of the 1850, same as the JD 4000, it has less options on it so it was cheaper to sell but i believe if someone bought it they could have the dealer add some of the things that were taken off. it has steel wheels instead of cast iron, smaller catagory of a 3 point, i believe the hydra power was removed as well, and some other small things as well. also instead of having clover white it was ivory white.

A subtle difference between 'stripped down' and 'never fitted. I am sure never fitted is the more appropriate term.

Yes there were for a short time a 1750 and an 1850 special. They were made to compete against the 4000 Deere. They had single headlight, they were also a different color green and yes they came with pressed steel wheels.

Got a serial number? That is a later engine with that intake manifold.

Hmm Maybe someone put them decals on mine or maybe the hood was switch out as some point,
cause mine has 3 speed late cast 34 in wheels, dual head lights in fenders and it is a very clean honest tractor. Thanks For all the Help guys.
