I have a 1900 with a Detroit motor when I drive it I get a black heavy oil or what looks like tar all over me, It runs good and have alot of power but under a load it blows all over me.What could be the problem?????? It comes out the exhaust....but doesn't smoke..

It's more than that its oil and heavy when you kill the motor it drips on the oil filter from the exhaust connection...

Sounds a lot like wet stacking. You need to work it hard to burn it off and then not idle or run at low loads to keep it from reoccuring. It comes from being overfueled at low rpms, low cylinder temps. If you are working it hard and it is still happening then you are having over fueling issues. It also may be bad injectors leaking fuel. Have you tested oil for fuel contamination?

what is wet stacking??? I hasn't been doing any hard work in the last couple of years what can I do to correct this...

no I haven't tested it for contamination but it sounds like a good ideal...If I put it under a good load for awhile you think it will clear it Will driving down the highway do?

Hrmmmmmmmm, is the oil coming out of the stack heavy like engine oil or is it light like diesel fuel? Is your airbox drain tube free and clear and allowed to drain? If so, is there anything coming out of it? My 1950, which doesn't have the freshest Detroit in the world, will only wet stack if I let it idle for a very long period of time when it's below 32 degrees and I'm running oversized injectors. If it is wet stacking, it sound rather extreme and that you either have a weak engine or a fueling issue.

is it using oil? you could have leaking seals in the blower. Also check if the airbox drain is plugged up.[behind governor] Wet stacking is unburned fuel blowing out of the stack, should not be a problem running under load.

Wet stacking sounds like the culprit.

More and more common theses days. Most older tractors don't get worked 'cause they're gettin' babied and lollie-gag around parades and the yard.

Gotta remember ,these tractors were designed and made to work and work hard.

We went to a plow day a couple years back with both of our 990's(Detroit 3cyl.).Those bad girls smoked like locomotives for the first round pulling 5-bottom plows, then cleared up.
