My tractor was running good while plowing - I hit an ice block and the plow force slide off the pile - I continued forward with no issues. When I tried to shift into reverse - here"s the issue. Neutral is now a high forward gear that engages when I let out the clutch. Most likely the one I was in at the time. Any other gear I shift into puts a load on the engine when I release the clutch but does not engage the wheels. I do have the double h-pattern and hard to tell but I think I cannot get into some of the forward gear. Any suggestions. THANKS

If its not shifting properly, then I would pull off the cover and check out the shifting forks, and see if somethings not broke or bent. Its a pretty straight forward cover to remove, but if you do remember to drain the hydraulic resevoir first. Good luck! Other than that i'm not sure what to tell you.

Sounds like it tossed your body into the gear shift lever and poped the fork off the gear you were in. Torque on the drive train would have kept the actual gear from moving. Where do you hurt or have a black and blue spot. Thought I broke my knee cap one time hitting something and it forceing me forward farther than I expected. Hobbled for a coupla days.

Before you take the cover off remove the gear shift lever only.Make sure you don't loose the two springs that center the gearshift. Take a good flashlight and a light prybar or a good heavy screwdriver, look in there and make sure the shifting rails are positioned so that the transmission is in neutral. If it moves in neutral one of those rails is out of position. I will send you an e-mail as well. J.

Thanks all - Once I tow the tractor back near the garage I will pursue with removing the cover and see what I'm dealing with. Since I do not have manuals - I'm hoping that common sense prevails - I've picked up the tractor during the summer and after re-doing the electrical - it's been great up to this point.

Another issue: I have a leaking gas tank - I've tried NAPA fuel patch but it only last about 4-5 weeks - can this be welded or shall I continue to locate a tank? The leak is in the bowl area.

Update - before proceeding to remove the gear box cover, I decided to first removed the shift lever cover to see if I could see anything. Everything looked good, so I took a long screwdriver and shifted the tractor into neutral. I started it up and indeed it was in neutral - a good sign. I then replaces the shifter and took a chance - and it worked perfectly. Thanks everyone for the support and advice. Now if the ice would just melt....
