Oliver 550 transmission

Looking for some help from our Oliver brothers out there. Just bought a "project" 550. Tractor now runs, but not in reverse. Thanks for your help. Jeff.

Does the gearshift lever go in reverse? Have you taken the gear shift out and looked in there to see if the shift rails line up?

Thanks for responding. The lever does go in the position for reverse, and seems to be engaging a gear. Haven't opened up the plate under the shift lever to check anything out inside.

still could use some help with this one. jschweibert give me a response, but it wasn't exactly of much value. anyone else out there want to give me some help with a 550 that won't go into any of the left side of the shift pattern.

Sounds to me he gave a pretty good response.The only way to tell if the shifter is engaging the forks is by taking it out and looking,Put the shifter in neutral before removing the shifter retainer plate to simplify things after removing it. Good luck they're great little tractors after you work the bugs out.
