oliver 70 engine

what can be done to the 201 6cyl that is in the oliver 70, ? how big can it get ? or what will fit in ? thats pretty lite tractor with a 6 originaly

Don’t know much about Oliver but I was talking to a guy that was building an engine for a 77 or a70. He had bought a 454 Chevy sleeve kit with pistons, had the Oliver block bored to accept the sleeves and then had rods made to mate the pistons to crank.
How it all turned out I don’t know but after all that you still got to figure out how to feed it enough gas and air to make it run. There’s probably somewhere between that and stock to get more power but the question you have to answer is: How big is your checkbook?

You will have to just start measuring to see what can fit. The 201 is pretty much a obsolete engine. Mine has pistons out of a Chrysler car. Bored the sleeves in the block. Think the only engine parts we could get were bearings from the obsolete engine place I Oregon I think, wrist pins and gasket set. Everything else was machined parts to fit. There are better engines and tractors to put money into. But do what makes you happy I usually end up with the odd ball stuff.
I put smaller diameter tires on the rear to change the gearing. That helped the most. With 13.6 38 it was geared to tall and just power out. Got 14.9 28 on it and has plenty of power. Usually pull it in the 2500 class and 3500 class.

has to be some dedicated oliver puller guys out their that has this all figured out not many pullers out west in my area

I have pulled and attended the NATPA in Ohio and I witnessed some impressive Oliver tractors . Where I met the amazing Mel ,get know and talk to him ,prince of a guy .
Back to NATpa if you’re out west. Get to a pull in Nebraska maybe to link up with someone.
Some guys are approachable some are not ,fair enough . Keep trying .
The fast way I think is to attend the big event pulls with a lot of good competitions .

There was a guy , president of our local pulling club that had an Oliver super 88 it was punched quite a ways . He did nt tell me the his neighbor in the club did. So I’m not to say any numbers . But it was so good he won the Ohio state antique pulling tour ( sorry don’t know the name of it) he had the jacket to prove it. Don’t have his number any more , I will ask around at the Geauga county fair coming up in a few weeks where Dave is , and what that tractor was for you.
Meanwhile you probably get a verification answer beforehand .

I am building a Hart-Parr 5 gear engine. Nothing too outrageous. Boring sleeves, Dodge truck pistons from flathead Dodge truck. Wrist pins are the same size. No Rod modifications needed. reground camshaft and some head work. A little carb work. Stock antique at 4 MPH.
