Oliver 70 Tires

I will soon be the proud owner of an Oliver 70 that needs new rear tires. The rims seem wide for the 9.0's available from Miller. Are there other rims available somewhere from another tractor maker that might fit--38" in particular? Thanks for the help.

Are they 9x40s with cast centers or what? If you have or can get a pair of 9 bolt hubs,you can go to 9 bolt 38 inch pressed steel rims,yes.

They are the pressed steel rims but 10 or 11 inches wide currently. Is there any place to buy pressed steel rims in 8" to your knowledge? Have started giving some thought to narrowing the wide rims with a plasma cutter and welder. Good idea or not?

There are plenty of places to buy new ones,but the filters here don"t like me to tell you the names of some of them.
I guess they cut and weld rims,but I"d be afraid of blowing my head off if I tried it.

Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Went to look at the tractor today and found that the there are castings instead of the steel wheels that I thought I was looking at. How did I miss that? I don't know but it is in a dark garage at the moment. Anyway, the rims are 10" wide (9 3/4 according to the tire guy who measured them and says put the tires on first and see how they look.) Will probably do that, but...? Will go back and measure the axle and start looking for 38" castings too--At least I think I will. Got some rain today so things are looking better around here. Still touch and go, even if not as bad as other parts of the country.

Quite frankly, so would about 5,000 other guys out there...

40" tires were oddball to begin with and nobody made replacements for decades. Grampa had an Oliver 70 and IIRC it was parked in the 1960's because its 40" tires were shot and you couldn't buy new ones anywhere at any price. All the good used ones were on tractors...

I think you'll probably end up buying new tires or converting to 38".
