I have an oliver 80 that isalmost completely restored. I need rear 40" rims tried 40" 70 ri ms but will not work, What do I need to be able to change to 38" rims and tires

M.E. Miller has 40" rims. You can havs these welded onto your original disk. That way it will still be original.

Are they cast center or spokes or what? If spokes,they could be cut down.

Years ago another man had the same problem. They found a railroad lathe that would handle the 40 inch castings and turned them down to 38 inches.

Well,that was foolish wasn't it? You said 70 RIMS wouldn't fit it.
Guess I had my own 70 on my mind. Finally found a set of decent 40 inch tires for my rims on cast centers,but I have a pair of 40 inch 70 spokes here too. I'd thought about cutting them down and putting 38 inch rims on those,but I didn't have to resort to that.

This in the 1935 model 1827 that I am working on. It became the model 80, so the axles are the same. I used the center cones from an 80 and 40" cast centers from a model 70. The rims are also 40" 70, but I widened them to fit the 13-40 tires.

Use Oliver 70 cast centers for 36" tires, with your 80 tapered hub, and use IH M or JD G drop center rims. Done this two times before works great.
