Oliver 88 Overbore

I have seen that done. I have also seen where they break and a rod goes through the side when that was done. Me I would go a different route. But its your money. J.

haven't had any problems with boring 3 7/8" sleeves to 4". make sure you are centered up. there is only about .060 left at the o-ring grooves. we have them at 4" with 4 3/4" stroke & 5" stroke, haven't broke anything in 4 years. won't say it couldn't happen. just a chance you take with those kind of things.

My dad put in the big sleeves from a super 88 in a standard 88 which of course makes it into a super 88. It is still in use today, zero problems.

no hard block. we don't believe in it. we have built custom sleeves with 4.310 bore for the 88 and ran coolant, with no hard block. built custom sleeves for 77 at 4.125 bore ran for 9 years, crank broke. owner called said build me another one just like it. 3 ears now still running strong.

Ive seen 88 blocks bored, and had JD 3020 sleeves whiddled down to fit in the 88 block. 4.25 bore, and you could use the JD piston. You wouldnt have to bore the top of the block much, only the bottom to help fit in the larger OD of the new sleeve. Might be thicker to do this than bore out a 88 sleeve to 4. I wouldnt use an old sleeve, a new sleeve would be best if 88 sleeves are used.
