Oliver 88 RPM's

J88puller

Was wondering how many rpm a stock crank can handle in a 88 gas engine (apprx) I know some guys with the oil fed rod engines spin them pretty high but is 2000 or up to 2200 rpm still in the safe range? I know they are rated at 1650 or 1750 but that is a rpm that you can use all day for farming and im more interested in pulling. Just Curious to see what people are running.

Turned one 2500 with no problems. I would think that you would be pretty safe, but unfortunately, anything can happen. But with that said, go for it!

"J88puller", 2200 is no problem, my 77 turns 3800 and has for years with no problem," knock wood". i use 20-50 mobil 1 and over fill it 2 quarts to get more oil spashing the rods. maybe this helps maybe not. let her spin and have fun, chuck

I would think that any tractor engine should safely be able to turn 120% of factory high idle specs and have no problems. In your case, that would be 2100 RPM.

I ran a 88 crank about four years around 3000. As long as there is a load on the engine your are more then safe turning it 2200- 2400.
