oliver super 88

I went to look at a super 88 rowcrop. The owner insists it has a 292 gm truck engine in it. It looks like the orginial engine in the tractor. Insists it is a very rare tractor with this engine combo. I am call b@llshit but does anyone
know for a fact that these were not a factory conversion.

All Super 88s had a 190 series jointly built Oliver/Waukesha engine. Is the starter on the lefthand side? What are the casting numbers above the starter? The 292GM was never installed from the factory. If the guys insists, then get the serial # from the tag below the gauges and call the museum in Charles City. The build card for that serial # will tell you what engine it had when it came off the assembly line.

What's it got for a governor? Is it belt driven or in the front center behind the fan belt?

based on what you say the guy doesn't even know what a waukesha engine looks like, or a GM for that matter. you can do the serial number thing with floyd county but to me i would say BS too, why would oliver go through all that trouble to fit a different motor in a tractor that already has a nice engine.

where is this tractor?- I built one and had a great time pulling it- It was not a super. I dont recall what carb I ended up with , but it used a marine intake manifold and exhaust worked through stock hole. Fun stuff- built on a bet I couldnt do it and for lack of money sold it.

Now if someone calls you and he tells you he has a super 88 with a 4-51 (not 53 series) Detroit get a picture of it because they did put at least one of those together. My boy had a picture of it several years ago.
