ON THE ROAD AGAIN!!!

Just got back from an 1150 mile round trip to bring home another deere. Some of my friends think I'm crazy traveling that far for a tractor. I got to see some country that I have never seen before, met some very nice people along the way and missed all the bad weather that hit central Missouri on Saturday. Just curious to hear of your road trips and how far you traveled to get a deere. Can't wait for spring! Best of luck this year to all of you!!!

I bought my 4700 from eBay, I had to go near 1,000 miles round trip to the other side of Arkansas to get her. Because of my work schedule and the sellers schedule I had to work 12hr night shift and then be at his house the same day, got there around 10pm, loaded tractor then found hotel around midnight. That was a rough day, drove through storms and tornado warnings most of the day too. The trip home the next day was nice and scenic. Also the wife’s back was acting up and the bouncing truck with GN trailer didn’t help her mood any either. All in all I think it was worth it, I enjoy road trips when I’m not rushed.

Went from N.E. Iowa to 90 miles north of Regina,Sask. Canada to pick up a 830 J.D. Around 2200 miles round trip. Had a map reader go along and everything went real smooth. Took all of 3 days and had pretty good weather for April. Did this back in 2001 and have heard border restrictions are alot tougher now. Fun to do it once, but to go that far again, I would hire a trucker to transport it.

I just check Mapquest 1230 miles one way to Tampa
Ive made 2 trips to pick up tractors in central Nebraska 1300miles Round trip.

Probably not more than a couple hundred miles, but going to pickup a new to me tractor is injoyable anyway. 630 propane from western Kansas, 49 G out by superior Nebraska, 52 B down by Opie, 60 from Lecompton area, and 730D by Atchison. What was your target Maurice?

My longest road trip to bring a tractor back was to Creston, BC, Canada. Over 1400 miles one way. I bought a BO Lindeman from a guy up there. We took back roads on the way home enjoying the scenery and found a guy in Montana that had a salvage yard and tractor lot. He had another Lindeman sitting in the weeds that ran so next year we made another trip back for it. We've been to Ohio several times-950 miles. My sister is out there so if I find a tractor along the way we make it all in one trip. Last fall we were in Texas to pick up a 430 U. That was 1200 one way. Tomorrow we leave for KS. to pick up a load of parts. About 600 one way. Good thing diesel is cheap again. $1.77 here yet today.

I went to Ohio from Tennessee to pick up the tractor. I went to backroad on the way back to TN. Very scenic road. Went across narrow bridge over Ohio river. Beautiful farms and towns. I had a great trip.

I m from Ohio and have picked up tractors in Oh,In,Ky,Mi,NY,Mo,Ks,OK just to name a few. We have had some good times and met some great folks along the way.

I had one hauled 1500 miles. I was going to make a road trip of it but things came up and I was unable to go myself. Will probably do it again as a couple of tractors I want are not common localy. I collect tractor that I do have some use for. I do not want things that are to valuable to use like a few collector guns around here that should have never been shot but I just can not resist.

I can't touch what these others have done. However, I drove from Southern Va. to south of Atlanta to get a Deere once and last year, I drove to Erie, PA from here to get a B. Going thru West Va isn't easy with all those hills and curves.

It was near Dafoe, I'm thinking Wynyard. Kinda' hilly but very interesting country. Extra nice people to deal with, also.

Stan-Florida and I traveled from B.C. to east central Sask - about 2500-3000 miles to bring back an AR I bought at an auction. Road trips with good people are one of life's great pleasures ! RonMC
Tractors, etc

well I havent traveled 1000 miles or more but I think my story is worth mentoning. I dont know how many of you fellas are from michigan but I bought my 60 from a an old farmer in sidney MI drove it to Sheridan MI from sheridan to my final destonation orleans MI. Which is about 20 to 24 miles on a tractor that tops out at 11 m.p.h on a tractor thats a long trip. But I have to say even with the sore back from the bumpy road it was worth it. Gotta love them Deere"s

That brings up another good subject, driving a tractor home.
When I was a teenager dad bought a 3010, we (me riding on the fender, grandpa driving the truck following) drove it home about 35 miles one-way, about half way we noticed smoke from the steering column, then it blazed up, apparently there was lots of oily stuff inside there and the wiring shorted out. Luckily there were a few milk jugs full of water in the back of the truck. We put the fire out, disconnected the batteries, pulled it off, then continued driving it home. A few years before that he bought a 4010 in Tennessee and we drove it home probably around 40 miles right through Huntsville, which is a fairly big city, that trip was also interesting. I’m glad that nowadays we are fortunate enough to be able to afford trailers and/or afford to buy stuff at the dealer and have them haul it.

Nancy and I drove from Dallas on 4th of July weekend years ago to Gosport, Indiana.

Drove my 65 chevy with a 16' flatbed.

Picked up her dad's 48A.

Nancy can quote the mileage, I remember 22 hours driving one way.

Similar "was that really necessary" on the road though this story involves a 95 round back! It started and ran though the governor was real sluggish. We fixed a tire, greased everything well, removed the flat belt checked most everything we could think of, changed the oil & filter then headed home about 30 miles with a 3 row narrow corn head attached & the platform in tow behind the truck. We got about 5 miles and it gave three of the biggest nastiest backfires I ever heard blowing blue flame a good 6' out the muffler and died smack in the middle of a township (that means skinny) road!

After scratchin our heads for a half hour (which seemed like three) we discovered the distributor was out of time with the engine by a half turn! Seems somebody had tightened the hold down clamp some time in it's past while the drive was not lined up and slid the collared flange down the distributor's shaft so that the distributor didn't go far enough into the engine anymore and it sliped a half turn! Removing the gasket between the flange & the block was enough to allow it to again engage! Yes that's a pretty slim margin but it was enough to get it to start & make it home without any more incidents! Sure did some sweating on that trip!

Removed the distributor when we got home, gave it a good D&C (dustin & cleanin), pressed that flange clear on, put the gasket back in timed it & gosh that was 15 years ago! Still runs fine.

I bought a combine about 90 miles south of me 15 years ago and another one about 80 miles north of me about 10 years ago and drove them both home. Don't care to drive them but I was there and it was faster than going home and getting the truck and going back again.
