Once more! JD Drag Problem

JD drag problem
We have a five section spring toothed drag what appears as the two outside sections could be folded up if it weren’t for the solid one piece stays up front.
Would appreciate parts page or pictures of hinged stay bars for implement updating for more easily public road transporting.
Thank you again in advance.

Hi Fern , I think what you have was originally used with a rotary hoe . I just cut one like it down last week to use as a dolly for a harrowgator . I think someone used the cart for the spring tooth .

Noble made, what I called a crustbuster, somewhat similer. Unhook the bars from the outside wing,at the wing. Then fold the wing up, you then should be able to lay the angle braces on top of the machine in the raised position. Then reverse the procedure at your next field.

I haven't used one, but don't you just disconnect the angles & flop the wings over? Don't need the angles for road travel, just for pulling in the field.....

Some designs you twist the rectangular tube up 90 degrees & the drag sections transport about vertical, then the wings would fold front ward & rest on some part of the hitch. Again the angle brace disconnected & went someplace for transport storage. Doesn't look like this rig is that way tho.

You wouldn't want a simple hinge there, on corners that brace is in compression, not just tension on regular pulls.

I'm going to an auction Saturday where they have a 3-section drag. Would this work to dethatch an old field that hasn't been worked in 30 some years? I'd also like to use it to smooth after disking.

In Iowa the implement in the picture was often called a spring tooth. If you use it in heavy trash, it acts like a dump rake, making for a long day. If you use it in a conventional tillage and it's dry they work pretty well. These were the ancestor to the quack digger, the field cultivator, and the crustbuster.

While it looks like maybe the outer wings should fold up for transport, it may be hindged there more to allow the drags to follow the contour of the ground that to fold.

What you have there is a F931H Hydrolic Wheel Drawbar Cart with no.10 Drawbar Attachment for 5 spring-tooth harrow sections. For 4 sections the hitch was a no. 9. That cart was made for all these, spring tooth sections, multiple type of spike tooth sections and No. 12 rotary hoe. The spring tooth sections are not the same as the drag type spring tooth sections. And the book shows the hinging to fold it up. The operators manual is no. OM-A14634. It was also a end section fold up or a rearward foldup and could be had with dollie wheels on the outer ends of the drawbar.

This type drag wont work dethatching for you. It just load up with trash and make your cleaning it out klife miserable. I can see in my mind what you need but I can't put a name with it. Its an implemt what breaks down pasture cow pies breaking up spreading the manure around for a cleaner pasture.
Best I can make of a discription it looks like a chain link fence with a whole lot of loose ends pointing straight down.

Thank you ever so much for the detailed information Leroy. It'll surely be a help in my research. Been told the sway arms folded. I look at and I'm jiggered if I can figure out the geometry to make them work ing such a fashion.

Fact is I thank everyone for your respounces. They're appreciated.
