Get out the torch and straighten it?

Anyone have a stronger set up or a way to strengthen what is there? Can a sliding sleeve be made to keep this from happening again?

Thanks.

Jim

I bet you did that backing up.. or no check chains and an implement caugt that rear tire.

it's already been repaired before.. I'd get some allthread and cut the bend out and weld in a new piece.. will work fine since it has already been cut/welded on..

I have one I fixed like that.. been fine for 6ys now..

Hang in there...

In 100 years no one will know, or care about us.

It is all relative to right now, and right now is [b:5f785abec7]all that we really have[/b:5f785abec7] or have ever had.

I am a man with no future.

I do plan to ride an 8N tractor tomorrow.

I would do like soundguy says. Cut the bent part out and weld a threaded rod back in. The one on my tractor has been repaired like that for many years now.

(quoted from post at 18:00:56 04/23/10) You need a new leveler.

How the ELL did that happen!?!?!?!?!

I just picked one out of the many how did you do that.......

I would have thought most of you guys would have done this several times. I am surprised and honored.

I am pushing old logs and up-ended stumps with the old girl. Stopped to get a cold one and found the Ooops.

I will check out the replacement part, but for now I think I will have to use the torch to straighten.

I think I got the old girl running pretty good to do that though.

I might have some pics of my daughter plowin' tomorrow. You guys might want to tune in for that thread.

Thanks.

I'm not JMOR but if you scroll down that page a bit further & look for "Shaft Level Box" it sells for just under $10 plus shipping of course.

Amen Brother.
3 point systems are Not made to push with. Though folks do it all the time, they're made to pull with only. There's lots of doohicky stay bars and the like which will improve it's ability to push stuff. But none of them can hold up to the tractor's mass+HP in reverse for very long without rending something.

Thanks Dan,

OK I found it but it didn't look like it fits into the "turner thingy" that cranks it up and down. If that is the part, no problems. I can figure out how to get it in there.

I am thinking of getting another solid connection like on the other side to use only when I am blading. Then I can't bend the leveler.

The only time I need a leveler is when I am plowing.

Right??

Jim

Well, I don't use my tractor for farming, just snow plowing brush hogging and on occasion a rear scoop, but I do use the leveler for all of those. There is no other way to get the load, plow, or hog level that I know of.

Well Ultradog, as respectfully as I can say it, this tractor is in my shed, not yours, and you can use yours any way you want.

I need to push some stuff with mine.

I will use it to its maximum potential regardless if it is pushing, pulling, plowing or what ever.

If I was asking for a judgment, I would have emailed my ex wife.

Jim

I agree Dan.

I don't use it for snow plowing or brush hogging yet and don't have a scoop so I can't comment on those situations.

My girl is used mainly for back blading, forward blading, plowing, discing and pulling logs out of the woods to be cut into timber, and occasionally going to the mail box.

I was just looking at the set up tonight and thought that I really don't need a leveler for anything other than the plow. It would be an easy fix.

Nothing has to be REALLY straight around here any way.

Thanks.

Jim

pdhntr, this aint a 12 step program so I won't tell you all my sins and all I've wrecked on these little Fords running them too hard. I do get a joy out of running them for all they're worth. Plus a little extra.
But I don't push much in reverse with em any more.
Broken axle pins, mangled lift arms, twisted stay bars add up. I've been told that pain is an effective teacher. It was for me.
Ultimately though, you are correct. It's in your shed not mine.

Ultradog,

And that could likely be where I am going. I read you loud and clear.

Just replaced the same bent portion of mine this week. I never
knew how I might have done it until reading comments here. I
will pay more attention to my backing with implements. Anyway,
not insulting your knowledge of how this leveling arm comes
apart and I am not sure which direction you are going in to
correct the problem, but I will share my experience of repair. I
replaced only the threaded shaft portion with a new shaft.I took
the leveler off the tractor. I don't have a cutting torch so I used
an angle grinder to cut above the bend, because that shaft
section does have to exit out the yolk assembly. I could not get
the pin to punch out of the small side of the leveler handle
because it had mushroomed slightly so I put the grinder to it
slightly to get rid of the mushroomed section and yes I was
punching it out the correct direction. It was still tough to punch
it out, but it did come out. Once the handle was removed that
allowed me pull the handle through and out. I left enough of the
threaded portion of the leveling shaft (about 3 inches) to help
me to use the shaft itself, to punch out the flat cap between the
yolk that keeps all the grease contained and clean. Drop the
new threaded leveling shaft in, replace the handle section, tap
the pin back in and reinstall the flat cap that holds the grease
in, and was in business. The most time consuming part for me
was removing the pin that holds the handle in place. Just my 2
cents worth. TJ

Get a new shaft and gear. Most of the threads on the shaft are rusted away because water gets in.Regular greasing would keep water out.

I don't think UD meant anything negative.

Just giving friendly advice like the rest of us. UD is a real smart cookie.

It's just we've both seen ( and probably experienced ) what pushing on the 3pt can do.

I know I'm familiar with that damage as #1, I've repaired N lift links that have had that damage, and #2, I've broken one myself using a box blade! Twisted it worse than yours i did.

Understood Soundguy.

I need a new radiator anyhow, so I might as well get the parts ordered from this site.

Thanks everyone for the information. Now out to the shop to get it straightened for now.

I don't know about you, but I find that I use the leveler a lot when using my box scraper in different situations.
